The Spanish travel more and more 2005: 171 Million Trips (+6.8%) 799 Million Roomnights (+8.0%) 2006: (6% growth estimated) However: 93.4% of trips within Spain. Only 6.6% (+6.7%) of trips are to foreign destinations. Purpose: Leisure Trips: 56.1% Visit F&F: 20.9%, Business: 18.4%

Catalonia: (26.1% of totals trips outside Spain) Madrid: (19.1%) Valencia: (11.6%)

Leisure Travel Trends: 

Leisure Travel Trends 90% of all leisure trips take place inside the country (such as driving to family or friends) Main purpose for Leisure trips is Cultural (64,1%) Low costs now connect Spain to nearly every country in Europe  potential for more weekend trips outside Spain The Spanish are beginning to discover non European destinations Africa & Asia becoming increasingly popular

Group Travel Trends Mainly Incentives and Congresses Shorter lead time, average: 30 days Lead time for larger events: 1-2 years Traditional European destinations still popular (Paris, Rome, Lisbon, …) London not affordable any longer for many planners New sought after destinations include Istanbul, Edinburgh, Dublin Outside Europe the most demanded is Morocco as well as Latin American destinations
