ICT, Innovation & the Transport System Sustainable Transport in Europe and Links & Liaisons with America :

ICT, Innovation & the Transport System Sustainable Transport in Europe and Links & Liaisons with America ICT Research at the EU level & its Relevance for the STELLA Thematic Network Dimitrios A. Tsamboulas Ass. Professor National Technical University of Athens, Greece National Science Foundation, Arlington 15 - 17 January 2002

STELLA Focus Groups :

STELLA Focus Groups Globalisation, E-Economy and Trade ICT, Innovation and the Transport System Society, Bahaviour and Private / Public Transport Environment, Safety, Health, Land Use and Congestion Institutions, Regulations and Market in Transport

Objectives of Focus Group 2 :

Objectives of Focus Group 2 Exploration of the potential effects of ICT on improvements or breakthroughs in transport systems Exploration of the ways in which ICT are intersecting: new ways of living & working within metropolitan regions, creation of a complex mix of travel substituting, enhancement & generation of effects, with emphasis on behavioural & spatial aspects Comparison of findings in EU & North-American countries on the degree of substitutability between physical and non-physical transport Mobilization of high quality research potential: clear expertise on the intersection of ICT, innovation & modern transport systems

Slide4:

Seek for effective cooperation among European & North American transport researchers & policy analysts Dissemination of the findings on the intricate relationships of ICT & transport innovations to the research community & policy-making bodies Creation of a platform for exchange of information & knowledge on sustainable transport issues among Europe & North American experts Generation of opportunities for initiating joint research, undertaking comparative investigations on the success & failure factors of policy Enhancement of efficiency in transportation research
