Check every second day that the rockwool cubes are moist. Use your jug filled from the nutrient tank to do this, you will find that within a week the roots are out the bottom of the pot and taking up the nutrient from the bottom of the channel. In the bottom photo these plants have been in the unit 7 days and the roots are well established. F King 19/01/2011 Unit 22179 Tai Poutini Polytechnic 2011

Slide 6:

Generally you do not get a lot of problems with disease in hydroponic lettuce, but if plants start to wilt or go limp remove them from the unit and dispose of them in the rubbish bin, not in the compost. F King 19/01/2011 Unit 22179 Tai Poutini Polytechnic 2011

Slide 7:

By planting resistant seed a lot of the problems do not affect your crop. If you go to http://www.terranovaseeds.co.nz/site/?cat=103 You will see under the technical specifications of some of the lettuce what they have resistance to F King 19/01/2011 Unit 22179 Tai Poutini Polytechnic 2011
