Baseball MoviesAbout Baseball: About Baseball Baseball has been American’s favorite pass time. It’s a sport with two teams consisting nine players. The goal of the game is to score runs by hitting a ball that is thrown by the pitcher. You have to hit the ball and run around the diamond touching bases. Once you reach home play you scored a run. But out of this there are many rules.Basic Rules: Basic Rules On Base Run from base to base until you reach home plate. Able to steal bases. Once there are two outs in any ball hit run, if you are safe you're safe! When Batting Hit the ball before three strikes or else it’s an out. Once hit run as fast as you can to the bases and try not to get out. If the ball is going to hit you take one for the team, you’ll be walked to first base. When the ball is batted high in the air the runners have to stop half way to where they are running and make sure if its caught. When caught they have to rush back to the base they were and if its dropped they have to see if they can run to the next base. If the ball is caught in the air it’s an out. Make sure to always tag the base when the runner is coming toward you, or tag them. You can steal bases once the pitcher is settled to pitch.History: History Baseball has been in the United States since 1791. They began to play with teams and use formal rules in the early 1800s. The sport unrivaled in popularity and became known as American’s “national pastime.” In 1845 Alexander Joy Cartwright (1820-1892) invented the modern baseball field. Baseball was based on the English game of rounders. Alexander Cartwright and the members of his New York Knickerbockers Base Ball Club, made the first rules and regulations for what’s baseball today. In 1858 the first organized baseball league was formed. Babe Ruth best baseball player that ever lived. He was good in baseball as a left handed pitcher and hitter. He became a legend with the New York Yankees. He led the league in homeruns many times. He ended his career with 714 homeruns coming in second place, but people believed he was the best baseball player who lived.Pitcher: Pitcher The pitcher is the player who throws the ball from the pitcher’s mound to the catch so the batter can hit the ball. In order to get an out he has to throw three strikes, but if he throws four balls the batter is walked to first base leaving the runner in a position to score. The pitcher can use tactics in order to trick the batter. The pitchers will be able to throw a curve ball, making it curve when they are about to swing. They can also throw a knuckle ball which has no rotation. They also throw the fast ball which goes at the highest speed they can throw. They also throw a change up which is thrown slower know the batter will expect a fastball. This is what the pitcher does.Catcher: Catcher The objective of the catcher is to catch the ball the pitcher throws. He also tells the pitcher what type of ball he should throw, if the pitcher agrees then he throws what the catcher calls. He can also throw the ball to the basemen to try to pick off the base runners. The catcher’s arm has to be good so it can reach the bases fast and accurate.1st Base: 1 st Base First base is where the majority of the outs will come! If the first basemen is a lefty it makes it better because he is able to throw the ball within the line. Most of the time the reasons for errors at first base will be because the players wont throw the ball directly at him. They may overthrow him causing the runner to be safe. The first basemen can also make a double play. If the ball is ht to him he should throw to second base and the shortstop will catch it while the second basemen will be at first base ready to catch the ball again. Always have to be ready for any play!2nd Base: 2 nd Base Second base is pretty simple. he has to throw the ball to the bases where he can make an out. In a double play he gets the ball and throws it to second base where short stop will receive and throw it to first base. When the ball is hit to right field he goes out as cut of man and throws the ball back into the infield.3rd Base: 3 rd Base Third base is a pretty hard position. The ball will usually be hit harder at the third basemen and he has to be able to get it. When a double play occurs he gets the ball and throws to second, then second basemen will throw to first. When there’s a play at home he goes out having short cover third and he throws to home plate.Shortstop (SS): Shortstop (SS) The shortstop is the leader in the infield. He is the one who plays a big role in there. Most right batters will hit the ball towards him and he has to get rid of the ball to the bases in order to make the outs. When short makes a double play the ball is batted at him and he throws to the second basemen leaving the second basemen throwing it to first. When the ball is thrown to left or center field he has to run out as cut of man to receive the ball and throw it to the bases. He also has to back up the pitcher when the catchers throws the ball at him.Left-Field: Left-Field The left fielder is also an important player throughout the game. The majority of the balls will be hit towards him because there are many right batters. He has to back up the center fielder and third base. Has to have a descent arm and speed.Center-Field: Center-Field Center field is the leader in the outfield. He has to run to back up the second basemen and every other outfielder. He has to have speed as well because the ball maybe hit between gaps. Good arm is necessary as well.Right-Field: Right-Field The right fielder always has to be ready for any left. Lefties tend to hit the ball to deep right field. The right fielder has to have a good arm because if the ball is hit and he is unable to catch it the runner may run all the way to third base knowing his hit was big. Right fielder also has to throw the ball to the cut off man which is second base. The right fielder also has to back up any throw thrown to first base and back up the center feilder.Designated Hitter (Dh): Designated Hitter (Dh) The Designated hitter is a player who hits in place of the pitcher. This was an official position adopted by the American League in 1973. The majority if the Dh’s are players who are known to bring in a big hit. A very talented Dh would be David Ortiz ‘The Big Papi” playing for the Boston Redsox. Picture of Big Papi hitting a homerun!Stats: Stats The stats are like grades in baseball. They let the players, people, and team know how well the player is doing.Great Baseball Movies: Great Baseball Movies You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
