How to stay safe during a hurricane: 

How to stay safe during a hurricane Get in a basement ,if you don’t have a basement get in a most central room with no windows (if you have a safe room get in it!) Things you need in a hurricane safe kit Have a flashlight ,battery powered radio ,blankets and pillows ,first aid kit, food, bottled water, map of the area, and if possible a back up generator (have this all in the safe room if you have one)

Hurricane lingo: 

Hurricane lingo Eye: The calm center of the storm Evacuate: You and your family may be asked to leave your home. Do not go back home until officials tell it is safe to do. Floods: More people are killed by freshwater floods during a hurricane then by any other hazard. Never play in flooded areas. Hurricane watch: The weather conditions are just right for a hurricane. Hurricane warning: A hurricane is expected within 24 hours make preparations now.

Hurricane lingo Storm surge: Storm surge is a massive dome of water sometimes 50 miles wide. Tornado: What’s tornado info doing on the hurricane page? Hurricanes often bring tornados with them.
