He is a British actor and dancer who grew up in an artistic environment thanks to his mother, his sister and his grandmother who were dancers. His first performance was in London, on the stage of the Queen’s theater in 1998 next to futures principals dancers like Hanah Spearrilt and Sheridan Smith. He was noticed for Billy Elliot in 2000. Billy is indecisive, and is afraid of his father's reactions, but he gets self-confidence all along the film. He also acted in: My name is Joe , Fish and ships , Gangs of New-York , Just a Kiss , Eragon and Merry Christmas . Jackie Elliot, Billy’s father, is a miner on strike and has a foul temper. He is full of stereotypes about dance and homosexuality but he is going to understand little by little that dance is his son’s passion and is now able to do anything for helping him. as Jackie ElliotSlide 9: Julia Walters Julie Walters (the dance teacher) is an incredible English actress of 61 years-old. Her first performance was in 1983 in the Education of Rita and then she played in a lot of film like Prick up your Ears , Sister my sister … But the most popular are Harry Potter (Molly Weasley), Billy Elliot and Mamma Mia . Mrs Wilkinson is a withdrawn woman, whose husband is alcoholic, she doesn’t show her feelings. It is a strong woman. as Mrs WilkinsonSlide 11: Jamie Draven In Tony Elliot Tony is violent miner on strike and is not kind with his younger brother.Slide 12: Stuart Wells In Michael Caffrey Michael Caffrey is Billy’s best friend, very shy and homosexual. He doesn’t dare to confess his homosexuality to Billy.Slide 13: Nicola Blackwell In Debborah Wilkinson Debbie Wilkinson is Mrs Wilkinson daughter and she is in love for Billy.Slide 14: A demonstration of miners on strike in 1984 Margaret Tatcher, former Prime minister of the UK The story takes place in 1984 in UK , during the violent strikes against the Thatcher closure of British coal mines. HISTORICAL CONTEXTSlide 15: SUM UPSlide 16: The principal character is Billy Elliot, an eleven year-old boy. Billy’s mother died a few years ago. Both Jackie, Billy’s father, and Tony, Billy’s brother, are miners out on strike.Slide 17: His father makes him doing boxing, because he wants him to become a famous boxer so as to get out from poverty. But Billy is not really enthusiastic about doing that and is really bad at boxing.Slide 18: One day, the gymnasium where boys are boxing welcomes a group of ballerinas who are having their lesson. That’s the way Billy discovers classical dance. He has got a real talent… He starts taking lessons with Mrs. Wilkinson in secret instead of boxing.Slide 19: He is so talented that Mrs. Wilkinson wants him to take the Royal Academy Ballet audition. The Royal Academy Ballet is the best classical school of all the UK in London. He is working hard for it.Slide 20: But his father and his brother don’t want him to dance. His grandmother, who once aspired to be a ballet dancer, and his friend, who is homosexual, are the only ones who believe in him and encourage him. Finally, Billy manages to convince his father of helping him in his project and to bring him to the audition. Billy is impressive at the audition and passes brilliantly the exam. From that moment, his life has changed.Slide 21: FOURTEEN YEARS LATER The final scene, that we are going to show to you, is set fourteen years later, Billy has finally achieved his goal : he became a principal dancer .
