How Can an AIBO Dance? Step 1 - Select initial start and stop position Step 2 - Include a midi file of your favorite song Step 3 - Create poses for the AIBO using MEdit Step 4 - Group these poses together with time intervals to form dance moves Step 5 - Save this information on a memory stick Leaders - Insert memory stick in the AIBO

MEdit:

MEdit MEdit Window – 3d View of an AIBO Motion Control Window – List of poses and time intervals, VCR or DVD player type controls, Save button Pose Control Window – List of joints, Save button Contents Control Window – not used for our purposes

Step 1 – Select Start and Stop Positions:

Step 1 – Select Start and Stop Positions Major transitions cannot be handled by MEdit; these must be handled by r-code Ex: sit to stand, stand to sleep, etc. Each dance segment must start and stop with one of three primary positions: sit, stand, and sleep Dance segments may be tied together using r-code by leaders

Step 1 – Select Start and Stop Positions:

Step 1 – Select Start and Stop Positions Decide on your starting and stopping position as a group Select “Add Pose” from the Motion Control Window Browse for the “Pose (.pse) and KFM (.kfm) Files” directory which may be found on the Desktop Double click the .pse file you have chosen

Step 2 – Include a MIDI File:

Step 2 – Include a MIDI File Drag the icon for your song from the desktop onto the MEdit window Dragging – Left click and hold down until you have reached your final destination (in this case, the MEdit window), then release

Step 3 - Creating Poses:

Step 3 - Creating Poses A pose consists of a collection of joint measurements. Manually edit joint measurements in the pose control window. Move the 3d AIBO in the MEdit window using right clicks. When you have a pose you want to use, click Save and save in the “Pose (.pse) and KFM (.kfm) Files” directory which may be found on the Desktop

Step 4 – Grouping Poses and Time Intervals:

Step 4 – Grouping Poses and Time Intervals “Add Pose” if you want a created pose to be appended to the end of the current dance Click on an existing pose in the list and click “Insert Pose” to place a pose directly above it Time intervals may be set initially and changed at any time; click on a pose and change the value in the box labeled “Interpolation”

Don’t Forget to Check!:

Don’t Forget to Check! Not all movements are safe for AIBOs Movements which are too quick for the motors to handle Movements where limbs overlap or hit one another Click “Check” every time you add a pose to see if your new pose is safe If the move is too fast, increase the time interval For other errors, contact a leader for assistance

Step 5 – Saving your Dance:

Step 5 – Saving your Dance When you have completed a dance, click Save in the Motion Control window, create a descriptive file name, and save in the “Pose (.pse) and KFM (.kfm) Files” directory which may be found on the Desktop Be sure to “Check” one last time before saving! Contact a leader before beginning a new dance to ensure that your dance has saved correctly and is safe.

Rules for Safety:

Rules for Safety AIBO should never have more than one leg off the ground at any given time. “Check” regularly. Dances which do not pass a final check will not be performed. Never attempt to transition between standing, sitting, and sleeping. This must be handled by r-code, and doing this through MEdit may damage the AIBO.
