Middle States Visit: 

Middle States Visit 12 people for 3 days in April 2008 Meet with administration, faculty, staff, students and CUNY representative Feedback they receive must match what our report tells them They will: Review all documentation Provide oral and written reports

Questions an Evaluation Team Might Ask: 

Questions an Evaluation Team Might Ask Do institutional leaders support and value a culture of assessment? Are the right things happening? Is there adequate support for assessment? Are assessment efforts recognized and valued? Are efforts to improve teaching recognized & valued?

What Makes a Successful Report: 

What Makes a Successful Report Honest and accurate self-assessment Evidence of College-wide awareness of assessment process Clear institutional mission and goals Evidence of assessment Acknowledgement of weaknesses and strengths Evidence that everyone at CCNY knows their part in the College’s mission

What Middle States Does Not Want: 

What Middle States Does Not Want NOT a marketing tool emphasizing only success and strengths NOT a document focusing only on deficiencies and gripes NOT a tactical document dealing with the micro level or with lines/money NOT a blue sky document with unrealistic strategies

The Good News: 

The Good News City College began a strategic planning process in 2003 The College tracks many key indicators We’re on our way to a comprehensive academic assessment Middle States does not expect perfection (whew!)

City Goals: 

City Goals Full re-accreditation A living blueprint that moves the College forward Create consensus through a process reflecting many viewpoints and uniting the CCNY Community A shared institutional vision

The Process: 

The Process President appoints Steering Committee of 28 faculty and administrators Committee members co-chair 14 sub-committees addressing Middle States criteria for excellence Co-chairs appoint additional sub-committee members from faculty, administration and students

Resource Support: 

Resource Support Key administration/faculty leaders serve as resource for committees

Timetable: 

Timetable Steering Committee convenes February 2006 President Williams charges committee Sub-committees finalized Phase I: February- September 2006 Compose self-study design questions/criteria Middle States liaison Dr. Linda Suski visits CCNY in Fall 2006 to approve self-study design
