20 Clubs Joint International Project: 20 Clubs Joint International Project Lege Tafo, a community of about 3,500 inhabitants is living without the necessary amenities of urban life. To aid the Lege Tafo Environmental & Development Association (LEDA) on their integrated Rural Development Program targeting on education, safe water, sanitation and health issues. In addition, to introduce Rotary sponsored educational program Concentrated Language Encounter (CLE), if successful, regional education authorities will take over the financial requirements. Rotary Clubs of Vancouver and Burnaby: Rotary Clubs of Vancouver and Burnaby In 1992, under the leadership of Vancouver South, ten Rotary clubs planted thousands of trees at the Cassiar connector. Rotary Club of Burnaby: Rotary Club of Burnaby Supplied a refurbished Leica M695 microscope to the Neuro-Trauma Hospital in Chernvitsi. In co-operation with the Rotary Club of Ternopil, Ukraine. Project goal is to supply basic neuro-surgical equipment to reduce mortality rates in Bukovina due to neurological trauma or defects in Southwest Ukraine. BUKOVINA PROJECT – Phase 2 INTERNATIONAL


Rotary Club of Burnaby Deer Lake: Rotary Club of Burnaby Deer Lake Haunted house provided lots of fun for the shoppers visiting Metrotown. Total donations for the 12 days totalled to approximately $9,000. The mall gave an additional $5,000+ for the club’s charities. The mall owners generously built the house and covered all the expenses. 30 volunteers included Rotarians from Deer Lake, Metrotown, Burnaby Interactors and non-Rotarians. Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown: Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown In support of City of Burnaby, “Rotary Rollers” meet once a month to paint over graffiti on the exterior walls of local businesses. Paint donated by businesses. Club also sponsors the Royal Oak Mural project in partnership with the Kingsway Imperial Neighbourhood. Every year the club participates in two community clean-ups. Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown: Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown Working with non-profits and local schools, launched the “Share the warmth” event serving soup and hot chocolate to local community. 700 coats were collected. Using rental truck as mobile coatroom to distribute coats to needy children in local schools. All club members were actively involved to make the project a great success. Rotary Club of Gibsons: Rotary Club of Gibsons WINEGARDEN WATERFRONT PARK GARDEN COMMUNITY July 6, 2006 Besides donating the performing stage, the Gibsons Rotary Work bee - 25 Rotarians and friends worked hard bringing a beautiful flower garden into life.


Rotary Club of Gibsons: Rotary Club of Gibsons ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP VOCATIONAL The club created annual scholarships totalling $9,000 for high school students. They also support a summer student working for a local art gallery, and provide training in an art related business. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS


Rotary Club of New Westminster: Rotary Club of New Westminster Distribution of medical equipment to various hospitals. Repair equipment in several hospitals and set up an operating microscope. ENT surgeons operated and trained local specialists. Training in maintenance of operating room equipment. Distribution of schools supplies to a number of schools along with soccer uniforms and balls. Rotary Club of New Westminster: Rotary Club of New Westminster Raised $10,000 this year to provide heart surgery for 5 small children with congenital heart disease.   Donations can be made to emas for tax receipts, and send to Dr David Neima ste 204, 625- 5th Ave New Westminster BC V3M 1X4 To install operating microscopes used in training doctors and to perform improved eye surgery in outlaying regions. Help with 20,000 free health examinations including 2,000 dental surgeries and 4,000 free eyeglasses. VIETNAM PROJECTS INTERNATIONAL HEART SURGERY: PAST 3 YEARS THREE NEW WEST ROTARIANS TRAVELLED TO VIETNAM:


Rotary Club of New West Royal City: Rotary Club of New West Royal City To supply Infrastructure, equipment and school furniture for a new building to replace the shack where 100 students used to attend.   Matching grant totaling $55,000 US provide these students a safe and effective learning environment. A hands-on trip in Nov 2006 saw 13 people go from D5040 to connect with the local Rotary club, they brought much needed supplies – and determined their NEXT Mexico project. MEXICO KOKOYOTZIN SCHOOL DISTRICT 2005-2007 INTERNATIONAL Kokoyotsin Kindergarten - Netza Indigenous School - Zihuatanejo Mexico Current hut very unsave and not workable in spring-summer rainy season


Rotary Clubs of North Shore: Rotary Clubs of North Shore Coordinated by all 4 North Shore Rotary Clubs with assistance from the Hollyburn Rotaract Club. Over Christmas and New Year, 208 volunteers provided 295 rides over 9 evenings, 7196 km driven, over $7,000 in donations. All proceeds go towards supporting Youth programs on the North Shore. Operation Red Nose is hosted provincially by the BC Crime Prevention Association. Rotary and it’s partners hope to increase awareness of drinking and driving. Rotary Club of North Van Lionsgate: Rotary Club of North Van Lionsgate For the 17th year Lionsgate club raised $28,000, planned and organized all the entertainment , activities, displays and food for the 12,000 people who came to Waterfront Park to celebrate Canada Day. Planning began in January. Two special activities were a Citizenship Ceremony for 60 new Canadians, and a Recognition Tea for 30 World War II War Brides. Rotary Club of Pemberton Centennial: CLEANING UP GREEN SPACE COMMUNITY Rotary Club of Pemberton Centennial The Club cleaned up a green space or “jungle” that has been an eyesore for the community for many years. The donations of heavy equipment, seed, irrigation and clean up amounts to over $40,000.00. Fundraising continues for final phase.


Rotary Club of Pender Harbour: Rotary Club of Pender Harbour An on-going project commenced 2006. Placing wildlife description signs and stone benches around the lake. Putting a 5km trail around the entire lake in the next two years. GARDEN BAY LAKE TRAIL PROJECT COMMUNITY


Rotary Club of Powell River: Rotary Club of Powell River Started in March 2007 to construct a magnificent band shelter overlooking the most beautiful place on earth. Once completed in June, this will be a tribute to West Coast architecture and design, with exposed aggregate, soaring wooden beams, surrounded by towering firs. Rotary Club of Pr George Yellowhead: Rotary Club of Pr George Yellowhead The Club offers the free educational program to max forty Grade 11 and 12 students who are considering a career in forest industry or environmental studies. The program consists of 3 exciting days of actively observing the BC Forest Industry as it is conducted in the Central Interior of B.C. province. Rotary clubs across Canada can sponsor one student per club. 18th ANNUAL ADVENTURES IN FORESTRY VOCATIONAL


Rotary Club of Prince Rupert & Prince Rupert Hecate Strait: Rotary Club of Prince Rupert & Prince Rupert Hecate Strait ROTARY CENTENNIAL FLAG PROJECT COMMUNITY Both clubs joint efforts to fix up the old BC Centennial site as a welcome beacon to travelers. Phase 1 constructed the flag poles and the Rotary plaque, repainted the BC sign and fixed up the park area. Phase 2 to add flags, outdoor lighting and 2 picnic tables.


Rotary Club of P.R. Hecate Strait: BACK PACK PROGRAM COMMUNITY The club purchased school supplies and had a night of fellowship filling 300 back-packs provided by the Salvation Army. A local anti-poverty society distributed the back-packs to families in need. The club will be doing it again this September. Rotary Club of P.R. Hecate Strait


Rotary Club of Quesnel: Rotary Club of Quesnel Renovation of the local cenotaph/ memorial, work to be completed sometime this year. Purchased one Shelterbox (shelterbox.ca), and rapidly building a second one to send to disaster area around the world. Purchased 10 Onil stoves for families in Guatemala. Rotary Club of Quesnel Sunrise 2000: DOWNTOWN SQUARE CLUB PROJECT COMMUNITY Installing large 4 dial Howard cast aluminum post clock by June in downtown square. To brighten up downtown core, with increase visitors from Rocky Mountaineer train stopping in Quesnel on the way to Jasper. Cost approx $40,000, major fundraiser Ladies Diamond Calcutta in May will raise about $10,000 and also monthly bingo for a year. Rotary Club of Quesnel Sunrise 2000


Rotary Clubs of Richmond: COMMUNITY 56 members from Richmond, Richmond Sunrise, Richmond Sunset and Steveston volunteered on Feb 10. A Rotary exhibition booth was set up displaying PolioPlus and the Wheelchair Foundation campaign materials. Some 15,000 people attended this one day street fair to celebrate the three-year countdown to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Rotary Clubs of Richmond RICHMOND WINTER FESTIVAL


Rotary Club of Richmond: Rotary Club of Richmond Raised $10,000 from 2006 Golf Tournament dedicated to the late PP Robert Barski for his unselfish contribution to Rotary. Funds will be matched by the University’s Foundation to create an endowment fund of $20,000. Interest derived will go to annual scholarships for students pursuing further education in the field of Trades. VOCATIONAL KWANTLEN SCHOLARSHIP


Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise: COMMUNITY Helped harvest vegetables to be donated to the Richmond Food Bank. Helped build the foundation for a sink with running water to be used by volunteers in the fields. Have also collaborated in providing materials to build a welcome kiosk for volunteers over the summer . Burnett Secondary School and spoke to Grade 8 & 9 students, offering their personal success stories to help students understand the value of staying in school to attain their goals.


Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise: COMMUNITY Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise TEAM ALPINE – MAKE A WISH Thanks in part to Richmond Sunrise Rotary’s donation, Ohan Korlikian drove his classic 1967 Sunbeam Alpine across the continent to Newfoundland, raising $11,500 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and competing in the Targa Newfoundland cross-province rally race.


Rotary Club of Sechelt: Rotary Club of Sechelt Provide combined washroom and food service facility for organized events in Heckett park. Budgeted cost $120,000, with Sechelt providing $20,000 and District of Sechelt the rest. The club provides most of the construction labour, design and supervision, assisted by generous help from the trade professionals. HACKETT PARK PROJECT COMMUNITY


Rotary Club of Smithers Alpine: Rotary Club of Smithers Alpine ROTARY PARK WORKBEE COMMUNITY The Smithers Alpine Rotary Workbee with their roller, shovels and Rotary volunteer spirit created this Rotary Park on the east end of town which is to be a major stop for tourists.


Rotary Club of Squamish: Rotary Club of Squamish Provide funding to support EBRC operation for a full calendar year. Fund total to nearly $33,000 was raised with help from the Interact Clubs, caring citizens and groups in Squamish, and District and Rotary Foundation matching grant. The centre provides a home, rehabilitation, education and care to about 40 street kids between 8 to 19, as well as outreach services to hundreds of children who remain on the streets. Rotary Club of Steveston: Rotary Club of Steveston ANNUAL STEVSTON WINE & SEAFOOD FESTIVAL COMMUNITY 6th annual festival at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. A sold out event of over 500 attendance every year. Large seafood buffet complimented with wide selection of wine from different wineries. As always, Steveston Rotarians skillfully shucked fresh oysters all evening. All proceeds go to local Rotary charities


Rotary Club of Vancouver: Rotary Club of Vancouver To fund, in part, a security fence for the parameter of the SCANN facilities. Project will be funded in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Brisbane and Wellington, Vancouver committed $2,500 ($12,000 after matching grants). SCANN is a charitable Foundation providing desperately needed literacy, education, food, shelter and 24 hour support and medical care for abandoned children from ages 3 to 18 on the streets of Nakuru. Rotary Club of Vancouver: Rotary Club of Vancouver EMERY BARNES PARK, DOWNTOWN SOUTH COMMUNITY Major capital contribution to the park construction. This urban park includes a water fountain, benches and strolling area. It provides a focal point to the surrounding community and much needed green space in the urban setting. In recognition of the contribution, the Rotary Wheel is prominently displayed in various locations throughout the Park.


Rotary Club of Vancouver Arbutus: Rotary Club of Vancouver Arbutus KITSILANO SOAPBOX DERBY COMMUNITY The club sponsored one of the 60 cars at the 16th annual Derby. The cars took over 50 hours to construct and rely on gravity to get them to the finish line. Club members also lent their helping hands during this community celebration.


Rotary Club of Vancouver Arbutus: Rotary Club of Vancouver Arbutus UNION GOSPEL MISSION YOUTH DROP-IN CENTER COMMUNITY 24 club members and LANGARA Rotaractors take turns serving dinner and clean up every second Monday. Through mentoring youth, have already helped one girl to return home, a very satisfying experience. In additional, hired a flooring company to replace the old flooring with a poured concrete surface, cost over $4,500.


Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial: Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial ANNUAL FREE MEDICAL CLINIC COMMUNITY EARTH DAY CLEAN UP COMMUNITY Club members and family cleaned up Jericho Beach Park to celebrate Earth Day. Offering chiropractic consulting and traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and prescriptions.


Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial: Rotary Club of Vancouver Centennial DELIVERING KNOWLEDGE TO THE UNREACHABLE LAND LITERACY Collected more than 30,000 new and used English school books. Shipped to Taiwan for children in the rural areas. The goal is to improve children’s English literacy level.


Rotary Club of Vancouver Chinatown: Rotary Club of Vancouver Chinatown Distributed 500 dictionaries to Vancouver inner-city Grade 5 students. Received a $1,000 Rotary Foundation, District Simplified Grant. Total cost $5,000. The club started the millennium project with donation of 1,000 dictionaries, now more than 3,500 children have received a dictionary. Rotary Club of Vancouver Chinatown: Rotary Club of Vancouver Chinatown SCHOLARS STUDY opened July 8, 2006 COMMUNITY The Scholars Study at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden was funded by the Chinatown Club to celebrate Rotary’s 100 year of service. Rotary Club of Vancouver Fraserview: Rotary Club of Vancouver Fraserview Village Bhamboi, Punjab India has 375 families and a population of about 4,000 with no basic amenities. Since 2006, the Vancouver Fraserview Rotary club has undertaken an initiative to provide clean drinking water, sewage system with sewage treatment plant, paved roads and streets, night light posts and a park for the residents. INTERNATIONAL BUILDING A HOPE FOR BETTER LIFE


Rotary Club of Vancouver Sunrise: Rotary Club of Vancouver Sunrise AFRICA VILLAGE PROJECT - ONGOING INTERNATIONAL Has been funding (with matching grant) and supporting Nursery schools in Dixie and Utha for the past 4 years. Built on washrooms, kitchen, playground equipment and provided school supplies. School now requesting help in setting up administrative systems, pre-school education and generation organization. A four member team went in Nov 2006 to work with the students and teachers for 2 weeks.


Rotary Club of Vancouver South: Rotary Club of Vancouver South KAKAMEGA WATER WELLS INTERNATIONAL Secured US $12,300 matching grant to build 4 wells in 4 different communities in Kakamega District, western Kenya. Construction to begin this spring and will be co-ordinated by Rotarian Julius from Kakamega Rotary Club. The community is responsible for building and maintaining these wells.


Rotary Club of West Van Sunrise: Rotary Club of West Van Sunrise Shake Shacks on Community Day at Ambleside Park. The club is renowned for their great milkshakes. Annual Senior Christmas luncheon. Maintain the grounds in the traffic circle at the foot of Lions Gate Bridge, part of the “Adopt a Highway” program participated by all 4 North Shore Rotary Clubs. Rotary Club of Whistler: Rotary Club of Whistler ABLUTION CENTRE IN TANZANIA – Sep 2006 ongoing INTERNATIONAL The center will provide shower, wash and toilet facilities for residential, disabled girls in the Jangwani Girls School, Dar es Salaam, creating a greater sense of equality and personhood for these disadvantaged young women. The wash house has been completed. Plumbing, solar panels and tiling is still to come.


Rotary Club of Williams Lake: WILLIAMS LAKE STAMPEDE PARADE COMMUNITY Took over the planning, organizing and hosting the 82nd annual parade on July 1st parade, 2006. Expecting 12,000 people this year. Sells 1,000 buttons at $5 each, all proceed goes to local Hospice Society. Winning button featuring original artwork to be chosen as the Stampede and Canada Day celebrations. Rotary Club of Williams Lake


Rotaract Club of Langara: Rotaract Club of Langara BUDDHA ACADEMY IN KATHMANDU, NEPAL INTERNATIONAL Donated $600 for the purchase of educational books to promote AIDS awareness and prevention, cover the cost of a doctor to give a seminar 3 times a year for 2 years. Fundraising $7000 for the continuation of the vocational training program. The Buddha Academy Boarding School accepts destitute and orphaned children between the ages of 4 and 18, it has more than 550 students.


Rotaract Club of New Westminster: Rotaract Club of New Westminster HOSTED INTERNATIONAL ROTARACTOR CULTURAL EXCHANGE Hosted Sarah El Kaddah from Cosmpolitan Alexandria Rotaract Club, Egypt. Had the opportunity to learn culture from each other. Exchanged project and fundraising ideas, possible twinning projects in the future. Sarah was able to attend RYLA North 2006 and had an amazing experience. Rotaract Club of New Westminster: Rotaract Club of New Westminster Sold over 300 cotton candy in the one day Show’n Shine 2006. Raised enough fund to purchase two Christmas hampers for the New Westminster Monarch Place Women Shelter. Raising money since 2005 to support Rotaract Club of Shanghai’s DPRK (N. Korea) wheelchair project. This year raised over $500 by selling Yuk Yuk Club comedy show tickets. ANNUAL CHRISTMAS HAMPERS INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY 1000 WHEELCHAIR PROJECT


Rotaract Club of Richmond: Rotaract Club of Richmond GREENLYMPIC LEGACY CONFERENCE Feb 17, 2007 ENVIRONMENTAL The club hosted the conference in Kwantlen University College. The Conference is for Richmond high school students, focusing on the relationship between sustainability, the Olympics and the regional urban population. $2,500 was donated to the students as seed money to initiate their youth environment projects.


Rotaract Club of Richmond: Rotaract Club of Richmond ROTARACT B.C. ROUNDTRIP May 11-21, 2007 CULTURAL EXCHANGE 5 International Rotaractors are invited to visit B.C. for a 10 day tour, all expenses paid by the local Rotaract clubs. To encourage cultural exchange and strengthen ties between local and international clubs. To showcase B.C. to Rotaract clubs around the world. To promote Rotaract awareness within the community. “LEADERSHIP THROUGH FRIENDSHIP”


Rotaract Club of Terrace: Rotaract Club of Terrace Canadian Tire and Marks Work Wearhouse donated 70 pairs of warm winter socks. Community members sponsored socks and filled with men’s personal hygiene products and a Christmas treat. The sponsoring fees were used to purchase toques, gloves and scarves. Rotaract Club of Vancouver: Rotaract Club of Vancouver PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The club organized and conducted the conference on Nov 24, 2006. Interact Club of Burnaby South: Interact Club of Burnaby South ANNUAL MULTICULTURAL SHOW CULTURAL AWARENESS The goal of the show “Rebel Nations” is to celebrate Burnaby South’s diverse culture, and educate the students and community about each other’s traditions. Funds raised go towards sponsoring two rural Chinese Students’ education.


Interact Club of New Westminster, Rotary Club of Royal City & Burnaby: Interact Club of New Westminster, Rotary Club of Royal City & Burnaby BACK PACKS FOR KINDERGARTEN IN MEXICO INTERNATIONAL Interact club purchased 100 backpacks for the Kokovotsin kindergarten in Zihuatanejo. 13 Rotarains from the two Rotary clubs travelled in Nov, 2006 to present the students with backpacks containing school supplies, a T-shIrt and a toy. The Rotarians also shopped for dishes and cutlery for the school cafeteria, then cooked and served pancake breakfast to all the kids.


Interact Club of Van Tech Secondary: Interact Club of Van Tech Secondary RECYLING SCHOOL LIBRARY BOOKS LITERACY After learning their school library books were to be discarded and destined for recycling, the Interactors sent them all to the Rotary World Help Network warehouse for shipping to the needy children.
