Edit Comment Close Premium member Presentation Transcript Slide1: Created by Heidi RoshoneSlide2: originated in Ancient Greece were held in the Valley of Olympia first recorded Olympics-776 B.C. games held every four years only Greek men participated consisted of only one event - foot race (stade) which is the length of a stadium or about 200 meters in length Slide3: -The Olympic Flag was adopted in 1914. -The five rings represent the five continents of the world. -The ring colors represent at least one color of each country’s flag. Slide4: In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.Olympic Torch: The torch is lit weeks before the Games and passed across the country until it reaches the Olympic site. At the opening ceremonies the torch is carried to the stadium. The torch lights the cauldron which burns throughout the games. Olympic TorchSlide7: Each country’s athletes enter the stadium carrying their flag. A spectacular performance is presented. Leader of the host country gives a welcome and declares the games officially open. Athletes recite the Olympic Oath. A flock of doves are released as a symbol of peace. The Olympic flame is lit. Slide9: -Biathlon -Skiing -Bobsled -Alpine -Figure skating -Cross-country -Ice Hockey -Freestyle -Luge -Nordic combined -Speed skating -Ski jumping Slide10: Gold-1st Silver-2nd Bronze-3rdSlide11: -After 16 days of intense competition the athletes gather together for a ceremonial goodbye. -The flag from the county hosting the next Olympic Games is raised. -Games are declared closed. -Olympic flame is extinguished. -Olympic flag is lowered.
