You will be prompted when you need to use it.Slope-Intercept form: Slope - Intercept form Y = m x + b Where Y is a y coordinate of a point on the line m is the slope of the line x is a x coordinate of a point in the line and b is where the line intercepts the y axisSlide 3: Y = m x + b For Slope intercept form you have to have a slope and a y intercept. In this equation, w e are given the slope , and an x coordinate and a y coordinate . So let’s start plugging things in where we can. First off, can you tell me what the X coordinate listed here is? If you said 4 you are correct!!! Now how about the Y coordinate? X = 4 Again, in this instance the Y coordinate is also 4 . Y = 4 Now, last one, what is the Slope of this line? You are correct if you said 3/2 m = 3/2Slide 4: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 Be sure you have your scratch sheet of paper. I’ll wait… Now on your paper plug in the numbers into the equation. You have 1 minute.Slide 5: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 Be sure you have your scratch sheet of paper. I’ll wait… Now on your paper plug in the numbers into the equation. You have 1 minute. Time’s up! The answer is: 4 = 3/2 (4) + b But wait you’re not done yet!Slide 6: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 4 = 3/2 (4) + b Now we have to solve for b So if you haven’t already, copy down the equation and solve for b . You have 2 minutes.Slide 7: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 4 = 3/2 (4) + b Now we have to solve for b So if you haven’t already, copy down the equation and solve for b . You have 2 minutes. Time’s up! Lets see how you did!Slide 8: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 4 = 3/2 (4) + b First we multiplied out the fraction 4 = 6 + b Next we got the b by itself - 6 -6 So now we have -2 = b But we’re not done yet! Now that we have the Y intercept we’re going back to the original purpose. Writing the equation. b = -2Slide 9: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 b = -2 So lets plug things in again. Remember to check your formula. I’m going to let you do this by yourself. You have 1 minute! Go!Slide 10: Y = m x + b X = 4 Y = 4 m = 3/2 b = -2 So lets plug things in again. Remember to check your formula. I’m going to let you do this by yourself. You have 1 minute! Go! Times up! The Answer is: Y = 3/2 x - 2Slide 11: Congratulations! You now know how to write equations! Use the same strategy found here to solve all sorts of problems similar to this. Happy Solving!
