IEEE Sections Congress 2008:

Québec City: 

Québec City Québec was founded by the French explorer Champlain in the early 17th century. It is the only North American city to have preserved its ramparts, together with the numerous bastions, gates and defensive works which still surround Old Québec. The Upper Town, built on the cliff, has remained the religious and administrative centre, with its churches, convents and other monuments like the Dauphine Redoubt, the Citadel and Château Frontenac. Together with the Lower Town and its ancient districts, it forms an urban ensemble which is one of the best examples of a fortified colonial city.

What is Sections Congress? Triennial gathering of IEEE grassroots leadership to network with other Section leaders attend training programs develop recommendations to guide the future of the Institute

2007 Activities: 

2007 Activities January Request input from Sections regarding content for 2008 SC Program February RAB to approve SC08 Theme Confirm SC08 Schedule of events February - September SC08 Program Committee will be developing program (tracks, core track training theme)

SC08 Speakers: 

SC08 Speakers On official notice for speakers will be distributed by the SC08 Program Committee. Each Regional SC08 Coordinator will be requested to coordinate these nominations & forward to SC08 Program Committee.

SC08 Speakers: 

SC08 Speakers Speakers should be aware that funds are not available within the Sections Congress budget to pay for speaker travel. Speakers' attendance must be supported either by their IEEE organizational unit (Region, Section, Society, RAB, TAB, EAB, etc.), their employer, or be self-funded. Will receive no monetary compensation for their participation. Unless the speaker is also a primary delegate, the speaker will also be responsible for the registration fee (which covers meals at Congress).

IEEE Honors Ceremony: 

IEEE Honors Ceremony The IEEE Board of Directors has agreed to conduct the 2008 IEEE Honors Ceremony with IEEE Sections Congress. The ceremony highlights the accomplishments of each year's IEEE Award and Medal recipients. All SC’08 participants will be invited to attend the ceremony on Saturday, 20 October 2008.

Regional Committee Meetings: 

Regional Committee Meetings In keeping with past practice, each Region will be provided with an opportunity to conduct a Regional Committee meeting prior to/after SC08. Specifics dates for each Region meeting to be determined based upon meeting requirements/hotel availability. Funding to attend a Region meeting will be the responsibility of the Region and/or Section

Common Questions: 

Common Questions What is a primary delegate? This individual will be the Section representative who will vote on the recommendations developed at SC’08 Who determines the primary delegate of the Section? Normally, this individual is the Section Chair or the incoming Section Chair but it is determined by the Section Executive Committee. How many delegates can my Section send to the SC’08? There is no limit to the number of delegates that a Section can send but only one individual can be designated as the primary delegate. For example, our section typically sends an additional two or three officers Many in IEEE recommend the incoming Section Chair

Registration Fee: 

Registration Fee What is the registration fee? This has not been established yet. In the past, the fee has been waived for primary delegate from each Section. All other delegates will be required to pay the registration fee. What does the registration fee cover? Allows an individual to attend SC’08 & it covers all meals & Congress events What is the registration fee for guests? Has not been established yet

Additional Expenses: 

Additional Expenses Primary Delegates Sections should budget funding to cover sleeping room (3 or 4 nights), non-congress meals, ground transportation and airfare expenses. Note – in the past, RAB has allocated funds to support the attendance of a primary delegate from each Section. Additional Delegates Include budget as noted above but also include funding to cover the registration fee.

Traveling to Quebec City Jean-Lesage International Aéroport More than 10 airlines offer over 300 weekly flights from/to many North American, South American and European destinations. Over 25 non-stop daily flights are offered to major hubs in Eastern Canada (Montreal, Toronto) and the USA (New York, Detroit, Boston). Approximately 20 Kilometers from SC08 Hotel
