A PIONEER ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOOL DEDICATED TO Ecological Literacy: Learning the Wisdom to Live Sustainably on this Earth 1974 Ramapo’s Flagship Environmental Programs open. 1975 Alternative Energy Center Begins Operation 1991 President Scott signs the Tailloires Declaration 1994-8 FIPSE Ecological Literacy Grant infuses the curriculum and Ramapo hosts annual Mid-Atlantic Environmental Conferences. 1999 Dodge Foundation award to Ramapo creates New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability 2000 Ramapo adds sustainability to its mission 2001 Decision to Replace Alternative Energy Center with State-of-the-Art Sustainable Education Center, to open Feb. 2006 2002 Strategic Plan Stesses Sustainability Agenda 2002 Greening the Village Project Begins. 2003 Sustainable Buildings and Grounds Committee formed 2004 Ramapo College Arboretum and Green Academic Building Planned

Solar Ramapo: 

Solar Ramapo Need to implement Faculty Assembly resolution calling for a feasibility study of placing photovoltaics on the flat roofs of the academic core in order to move toward making Ramapo electricity self sufficient Substantial state subsidies are currently available for Ramapo’s direct solar investment Energy Management companies also could install solar and take the energy savings as their payment One way to proceed is for Ramapo to issue an RFP calling for varied approaches to be compared
