No. We support Gallaudet University, House Ear Institute, The Starkey Hearing Foundation, and the Sound Beginnings Program under our Speech and Hearing philanthropy. Austin, Founder www.sotheworldmayhear.org Slide9: Partnership was announced at the 2006 National Convention 20,000 hearing aids delivered annually to those in financial need through more than 150 hearing missions a year Hear Now is a national, non-profit program assisting deaf and “hard of hearing” individuals in the United States with limited financial resources by collecting hearing aids for recycling purposes. Slide10: The camp is a member of the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps co-founded by Paul Newman. The only multi-disease medical camp of its kind of the West coast. Mission: To provide a year-round, life-changing environment for children with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. For campers, being surrounded by others who have the same disease is a normalizing and empowering experience. Sound Beginnings Program: Sound Beginnings Program Delta Zeta’s national philanthropic project is in its third year. Goal: Educate parents on the importance of timely follow-up activities if their infant does not pass the newborn hearing screening. How: Provide doctors’ offices with a Sound Beginnings Kit which includes 50 brochures and a video. Why? Nationally, 50% of infants who fail the infant hearing screening do not receive follow-up testing. Help decrease that percentage! Slide12: Myth: Our state mandates hearing testing so the Sound Beginnings Program is not applicable to us. Fact: Our materials are about the importance of FOLLOW-UP testing for parents whose children fail the hearing screening. This program can make a difference in all 50 states! “IT’S ALL ABOUT THE FOLLOW-UP” Slide13: Partnership since 1985 Located in Los Angeles, California Delta Zeta’s first project for the Institute was the furnishing of a parents' conference room. Donations provide funds for research and clinical services in the Children's Auditory and Research Center. Since 1985, Delta Zeta members have raised over half a million dollars for the Institute's mission! \Gallaudet University : Gallaudet University Partnership since 1954 Located in Washington, D.C. World’s only university with undergraduate programs accessible to deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Delta Zeta endowed the Delta Zeta Scholarship Fund and the Fine Arts Endowment Fund. Delta Zeta Dance Studio was dedicated in 1995. Delta Zeta has a collegiate chapter, Omicron Sigma, at Gallaudet University.
