Longest Day of Golf 2011 Team : Maggie’s Folks

The Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is a health care facility unique to Alberta. They are devoted primarily to high-level rehabilitation care of both adults (including the elderly) and children. There are many families this hospital supports. This is our story……..:

Maggie was born September 2004 at 33 weeks, weighing 4 lbs 3 ounces.:

She spent 3 weeks in Neonatal Intensive Care, on September 20 she came home.:

Maggie didn’t reach milestones like our other children, she didn’t sit, crawl, had vision problems and couldn’t use her left arm. Doctors told us to be patient and let her catch up, she was after all a preemie………..:

In January of 2006 Maggie was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, our lives were forever changed.:

Our journey with the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital had begun.:

After our first visit Maggie began her assessments. She has a form of Cerebral Palsy called Spastic Diplegia. The messages from her brain to the muscles in her legs are affected, and she has no sense of balance.:

We were given equipment, exercises, and homework to assist Maggie to explore her world……….:

We were in an early intervention program called 123 Go where Maggie received physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy with friends just like her, and we learned we are not alone. We had the support of this facility.:

Maggie receives ongoing support, therapy and interventions that allow her to be a kid, and do things just like everyone else……..:

At the Glenrose; Maggie attends regular appointments, physiotherapy, regular x-rays, summer camps, has Botox injections, serial casting, research studies, gets special equipment trialed and made such as leg braces, knee braces, canes, walkers and bikes!!!:

The hospital is always there to help us find a way to allow Maggie to follow her dreams…….:

We are forever grateful for the services and programs provided at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital, for the past, present and future of our daughter.:

We will be participating in the Longest Day of Golf June 20/2011. Golfing for 17 hours to raise funds for this amazing facility. We have committed to raise $3,000.:
