Supporting local community: Supporting local community 3 editions of English Summer Camp (2004, 2005, 2006) 180 kids from local orphanages 720 hours of English education for orphans Free of charge design and support of „Dom Rain Mana” („Rain Man House”) website www.domrainmana.pl


English Summer Camp: English Summer Camp What: intensive English course – teach and play Where: a camp in the forest on the bank of a small lake in the North of Poland When: 4 weeks in the middle of a summer Who: 60 kids from local orphanages (age 6-18) 14 volunteers of PMI GPPC + 3 English teachers and supporting students


Orphans in Poland: Orphans in Poland There are 700 orphanages in Poland They accommodate 20 000 kids 98% are social orphans 34% live in the orphanages due to the financial situation in the family


ESC Goals: ESC Goals Support orphans in studying English Motivate the orphans, show them that hard work pays off Integrate PMI GPPC team Promote PMI in local community PM training for people supporting the project who are not project managers


Preparations: Preparations Team of 14 people Each year the preparations start around March Starts with lessons learned from the last edition and some brain storming 2 meetings per month Group planning Execution controlled by PM


How does it work?: How does it work? 2x2 weeks course Children divided into 3 age groups 10 kids in every group Classes from 9am to 1pm Motivational system with prizes Additional activities


The course: The course Based on the best English studying aims delivered by our sponsor Pearson Education Polska (Longman) – each year they support us with free of charge books for the kids Delivered by professional teachers experienced in working with kids Study and have fun


Motivational system: Motivational system The kids receive points from the teachers for: Activity Work in class Dedication to the course Supporting others In each group 3 kids with the highest amount of point receive special prizes (mountain bikes, digital cameras, mp3 players) Every participant receives a certificate and gifts at the end

This year’s edition: This year’s edition 90 kids (50% growth) 2 locations in PMI Poland Gdansk Branch area 4 orphanages involved 4 English teachers New volunteers involved

Future of the project: Future of the project After CTP project we will try to expand the project to other places in Poland in 2008 We would like to inspire chapters in other countries to do something similar and maybe organize exchange of the kids in the future We will be applying for the PMI Component Award for this project, to bring more attention to it and promote and expand the idea
