Officials Pay: 

Officials Pay $7.50 per game $.25 raise per sport $2.00 raise for certified officials $15 for special events Payday-every other Wednesday Paperwork to Christine by Friday

What We Expect from Officials: 

What We Expect from Officials Responsibility Time issues, game management, shift obligations Respect Players, Other officials, Program Coordinators Authority Be a presence, but don’t be a nuisance Courtesy You are a reflection of the Recreation Department and USC itself.

Referee Assignments: 

Referee Assignments 1st week of games – signup at the ref meeting All other weeks - Emailed on Mondays Reply before 11 AM Thursday yes/no If you can work, send an email to the PC confirming your shift If you cannot work, let the PC know you can’t work your shift EITHER WAY, you MUST send the PC an email. Revised schedule emailed by Thu 11am If you say you can work, you have to work! If you need to cancel last minute, you can find a replacement using the referee info sheet that will be emailed to you. You must let the PC know when and with whom you are switching!

Uniform: 

Uniform Look the part! BLACK shorts/Pants Whistle - provided Shoes – athletic shoes (no cleats) Watch – wear a watch that has a stopwatch.

Injuries: 

Injuries Report all injuries to IPC’s immediately! If you are not sure whether to report an injury – report the injury! When to stop the game Call DPS 740-4321

Rules: 

Rules NCAA Rules will govern Two 20 min running halves 1 time out per half of 1 min 5 players to start game Clock always runs except during timeouts. At 2:00 left in the game- Eight consecutive plays will be run, and the game will be over. Extra points do not count as plays If one team leads by 22 or more, the “8 plays” rule is not used, the clock continues to run.

Points of Emphasis: 

Points of Emphasis Crossing Advantage/disadvantage: Did the crossing pattern allow the receiver an advantage? Was the Defensive Back put at a disadvantage Flag guarding any action by the ball carrier which hinders an opponent from legally attempting to secure the runner’s flag

Points of Emphasis-Flag Guarding: 

Points of Emphasis-Flag Guarding Examples: a) “stiff arming” tactics b) Slapping a defender’s arm hand away from one’s flags c) Excessive spinning d) Diving – if, in the judgment of the official, the diviing prevented the defender from securing the flags e) Dipping ones head, shoulders or upper body in such a way (waist or below) as to prevent a defender from grabbing the flags f) A ball carrier running in a straight line and not trying to avoid Contact with the defender(s) or running with his/her head down
