ENVIROMENTAL CHALLENGES : 

ENVIROMENTAL CHALLENGES 1.VEHICLES: Islamabad has 150,000 vehicles with good mix of new models and CNG vehicles. About 90,000 heavy and light vehicles, diverted to from GT road to Kashmir highway. Half of them are diesel driven trucks. Private vehicles are not subjected to mandatory emission check.

2. INDUSTRIES: According to CDA by law no polluting industry was allowed in Islamabad The industrial area houses eight steel furnaces which emit more than one tons of particulate matter each day. Four cement units around the city increase the particles level in the city.

BURNING OF SOLID WASTE: Total estimated generation of solid waste in Islamabad is 600-700tons per day which set on fir due unavailability of incinerators and land fills. 5.DISCHARGE OF UNTREATED WASTE TO STREAMS Discharge of city drainage pollute the nearby streams they are highly polluted

GREEN CITY : 

GREEN CITY A city to qualify as “green city” must have environmental considerations in energy, waste reduction, urban design, urban nature, transportation, environment health, and water issues.

DECLARING ISLAMABAD AS GREEN CITY : 

DECLARING ISLAMABAD AS GREEN CITY The federal minister government for environment will declare Islamabad as green city with the promise that from now and onward every residential, industrial, business entrepreneur, administration, and developer will act as “environment friendly” to this end number of initiative will be taken by government are as follows

ISLAMABAD GREEN CITY CHARTER All concerned ministries, donor agencies, Islamabad chamber of commerce and industry and NGO’s will signed a charter to work together to make Islamabad a “green city”.

ENFORCEMENT OF GREEN FORCE green force has also been proposed for the effective implementation of all the environmental laws in Islamabad. Green force will be provided with necessary equipment for its proper functioning

ISLAMABAD GREEN CITY FUND : 

ISLAMABAD GREEN CITY FUND Islamabad green city fund will be setup to meet the expenses on the whole plan. It was further envisaged that the fund will be financed by grants from the government, donations by the NGO’ and private sector.

GUIDLINE FOR PUBLIC The successful implementation of Islamabad green city plan will lie in the cooperation of residents with agencies and every one act as “friend of environment”
