Just for Fun Puerto Rico has been part of the US since 1898 (Captured during the Spanish-American War) Since 1917 Puertorricans have been US citizens by birth

Challenge: Language Barrier: 

Challenge: Language Barrier Hispanics from different countries, or even different regions of the same country, often have slight differences in dialects (name of industrial equipment).

Language Barrier: 

Language Barrier Tex Mex versus Spanish Tex Mex adopted English terms in their vocabulary. They may have difficulty reading correct Spanish Many Hispanic workers use slang (Anglicism) in their vocabulary (especially names of machines and technical terms)

Language Barrier What is a normal word in one Hispanic country could be obscene in another Example: the word for “Cake” in Puerto Rico means something else in Mexico! It can be VERY embarrassing

Language Barrier Cannot translate literally from English to Spanish Some words have more than one meaning Example: Seguridad means Safety But it also means Security

Worth, monthly. Construction safety publications in Spanish available A limited number of bilingual trainers is available
