Hi , I used to attend your church when I was a little girl in the 70s. I also attended the Girl's Brigade. An elderly lady called Margaret Carter used to look after me and made it possible for me to attend Sunday school and Girl's Brigade etc. I seem to remember that she lived near Banister First School, possibly in the same road, although I was only 6 or 7 years old. Margaret was a member of the Baptist Church and she may have had a son. I know it's a long shot but I often think of her, and wonder if any older members of your congregation might know anymore about her. We left Southampton in the early 80s, I very much doubt that she is alive now, but I never got the chance to say goodbye to her or thank you for giving me respite from my unhappy home life. I remember that the minister of the Church was Ken Furlong in the early 70s, not sure who replaced him but they would remember Margaret I'm sure she was a prominent member of the Church. This is a free 16 session Christian programme based on the Twelve Steps used by Alcoholics Anonymous. Crossing Places day, Thornhill Baptist Church, Saturday 27th November, 10:45-15:00 In partnership with the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC) the Mission Department is planning a series of regional crossingplaces days - an opportunity to inspire and be inspired by stories of Baptist churches engaging with their local communities. Southampton Blitz - 70th Anniversary Commemoration Service: 30th November 2010Advance notice of a special city-wide service celebrating the rebuilding of the city after the blitz. Please mark the date in your church diary. The service will take place at St Mary’s Church (which lost its roof on that date in 1940). Seven churches and some 45,000 other buildings were destroyed in three days of bombing. We will celebrate A City Reborn and pray into its future together.
