The Altruism committee had many successes in the past year. Our main fundraiser of the year, Irish Eyes, raised over $500 thanks to bartender tips and raffle ticket sales! Executive Board members each donated a raffle item as well as other Alpha Alpha members. Thanks to all our guest bartenders and donators!
We also prepared and served dinner twice last year at 4th Presbyterian Church’s Sunday Supper series for the homeless. Thanks to everyone who spent time in the kitchen!
At the annual holiday dinner party, we collected toiletries and make-up bags that were delivered to Marah’s Place during our holiday decorating party. Everyone who spent the cold winter’s evening at Marah’s Place for decorating is much appreciated!
Beth Jerauld hosted our Spring fundraiser, the wine tasting, for a group of women in April. The event was a great success!
New Affiliation for 2007 - House of the Good Shepherd: This women’s and children’s shelter provides independent housing to victims of domestic violence. Women stay at the shelter for 3 months until they establish housing, and the program has a greater than 80% success rate. While at the shelter, women receive work skills training, can learn English, and are provided child-care during normal work hours. We look forward to establishing a relationship with HGS in the coming year.
Many of the volunteer activities we offer are one-time commitments, but regular commitments in 3-month spans are also available. Please contact Suzy Kujawa or Catherine Young (caty2@aol.com) for more information about any of these events or for information about all of our upcoming volunteer opportunities. The 2007 CAP Scholarship Tea took place on Sunday April 29th. The tea was wonderful, as it was held in the beautiful Venetian Room at The Drake. About 50 Panhellenic women attended of various ages and sororities, and the silent auction was well received with lots of goodies to be won! The 2007 CAP Scholarship was granted to Infinity Cole of Alpha Gamma Delta. She is from Illinois State University and is a remarkable young woman focused on her academics, holding three jobs while still very committed to her chapter. http://alphachichicago.googlepages.com/home
