What’s Happening? Scheduling for the 2006-2007 School Year

Scheduling Timeline Grade 7 to 8: 

Scheduling Timeline Grade 7 to 8 Mass roll-over of information from current student schedules to get ready for next year’s schedule.

to Algebra Prognosis Test may be given . The results are put together with overall student performance and teacher recommendation to determine who will be enrolled in the 8th grade accelerated program. Courses involved are: Earth Science and Accelerated Math A/ Algebra

to Annual Review Course recommendations from the Committee for Special Education are input for students who receive these services.

Decisions about accelerated programs and academic intervention programs are being made, based on grades, testing data and teacher recommendations. Course Verifications are mailed home for parent and student review.

Eighth Grade Courses English Social Studies Math Science LOTE Note: If student needs both Math and English Prep Classes, LOTE may be dropped and resumed in grade 9 Technology Lunch PE/Art/Family Consumer Science

Scheduling Timeline Grade 8 to 9: 

Scheduling Timeline Grade 8 to 9 Counselors from the High School will do presentations in the Tech Ed classes sometime before the end of January. They will address the following questions: 1. What are credits and how do I earn them? 2. How many credits and what kind of courses do I need to graduate? 3. What is the difference between a required course and an elective?

4. What is a transcript? 5. How do I begin to develop an extracurricular resume, and why is it important? 6. What does a typical 9th grade schedule look like? 7. What electives can I select for grade 9 and under what conditions might I not receive my requests? 8. What are the course descriptions for the electives I might choose? Junior High School Counselors will go back into the classes approximately one week later to get the 8th grade course requests. Orientation for incoming grade 9 at the High School.

Parents and Counselors Together P.A.C.T: 

Parents and Counselors Together P.A.C.T The purpose of PACT is to bring counselors and parents together to guide their children toward a full range of educational options. Parents who participate in PACT workshops will gain the following valuable information: 1. Strategies for fostering effective study habits and encouraging success in school. 2. Information on how to handle the changes of the preteen/teenage years. 3. Tips on developing academic portfolios and co-curricular records for junior and senior high school. 4. The secondary school courses needed to prepare for various postsecondary options.

5. The assessment and development of skills and interests that are essential for careers, and information on careers. 6. The variety of postsecondary education options open to students including four-year colleges and universities, two-year junior and community colleges, and vocational and technical education programs. 7. The process and timeline for gathering information about postsecondary opportunities and using this information to make sound decisions. 8. The costs associated with postsecondary education, information about student assistance programs (including grants, loans, scholarships, and work study) and the importance of planning for these financial contingencies.
