Premium member Presentation Transcript Emergency Management Accreditation Program: Emergency Management Accreditation Program http://emaponline.org/ Dale Kietzman – PAD4391EMAP: EMAP The Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP), an independent non-profit organization, is a standard-based voluntary assessment & peer review accreditation process for government programs responsible for coordinating prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities for natural & human-caused disasters. Accreditation is based on compliance with collaboratively developed national standards, the Emergency Management Standard by EMAP Accreditation is open to all U.S. States, territories, and local government emergency management programs. Anyone can subscribe to receive standards and guidance materials.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 1: Subscription – The first step involves buying a program that gives you access to the EMAP assessment tool. The EMAP assessment tool is a basic layout of what needs to be done in order to gain accreditation.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 2: Self Assessment – The second step can only be started after you have paid for and gained access to the EMAP assessment tool. Once you have access, you follow the different standards that are explained in the assessment tool and determine if you are in compliance.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 3: Application: After an organization has completed their self assessment, they will decide if they are in a position to attempt to receive accreditation. If the organization thinks that they are ready, they complete the application.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 4: On Site Assessment – This step involves EMAP sending a tam of assessors to the organization to see if the organization is in compliance with all of the standards in the assessment tool. This visit must be conducted during normal working hours.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 5: Committee Review – After the assessors have completed their visit, they provide the information to the program review committee. The review committee will decide if the organization is in compliance with all 63 standards. If they are, the review committee will award accreditation to the organization.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 5 CONTINUED: If all standards are not completed, the review committee will require the organization to provide documentation showing how they will come into compliance within the following nine months. If the program committee agrees that they will come into compliance, they will award the organization “conditional accreditation.” The review committee can also recommend that an accreditation be denied.Steps to Accreditation: Steps to Accreditation STEP 6: Accreditation Decision: This step involves the review committee forwarding their recommendation to the EMAP commission for a final decision on accreditation.Fees: Fees The subscription to the EMAP Assessment Tool is $450. Between 2,000,001 and 6,000,000 people is $6,000.
