Premium member Presentation Transcript Pink Floyd: Pink Floyd Coming from the Darkside of the MoonHow and When it all Started: How and When it all Started 1963,1964-Nick Mason (drummer) and Richard Wright (keyboard) met Roger Waters (bassist/songwriter) in Regent Street Polytechnic in London. 1965-Later met Syd Barret (guitarist/vocals/songwriter) and from one of his recordings created the name for the band. 1966-the band was discovered by a music agent named Peter Jenner. 1967-Pink Floyd goes to record there first album of the rest of their career.The Rise and Fall of Syd Barret: The Rise and Fall of Syd Barret 1967 The band's popularity was increasing radically with the increasing numbers of concerts, and in early spring the band played as many as 20 concerts a month. 1967- Syd Barret creates a masterpiece known as “Piper at the gates of Dawn” and also “Saucer Full of Secrets” but deterioration of Syd Barrets mental heath becomes apparent. 1967,1968- The band recruited Dave Gilmour (Lead/Rhythm Guitar)and with a short time after, Syd Barret was officially announced as no longer a member of pink floyd because his heavy use of psychedelic drugs and fall into complete madness.Leading up to one the best albums in music history: Leading up to one the best albums in music history Dave Gilmour now being full member starts into the creation of three albums leading into the 1970’s, “ Zabriske Point” (soundtrack), “ Ummagumma ”, and “Atom Heart Mother”. Shortly after, Pink Floyd made the album “Meddle” which would change the face of the band for the rest of their career.The Darkside of The Moon: The Darkside of The Moon 1973- Darkside of the Moon was created. Themes include conflict, greed, the passage of time and mental illness, the latter partly inspired by Barrett's deteriorating mental state. The Dark Side of the Moon was an immediate success, topping the Billboard 200 for one week. It subsequently remained in the charts for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988.Pink Floyd’s Establishing as a legend: Pink Floyd’s Establishing as a legend Band creates a historic album about absence, the music business, and former band-mate Syd Barrett's mental decline called “Wish You Were Here” Album reaches number one on the British and U.S charts. the album has since been voted to the 209th place on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All TimeRichard Wright Leaves The Band: Richard Wright Leaves The Band Before the making of the album The Wall, Pink Floyd created the album Animals which showed the early signs of discord that several years later would culminate in keyboardist Richard Wright leaving the band.Roger Waters Goes Solo: Roger Waters Goes Solo After the making of “The Final Cut” Roger Waters decided he no longer wanted to work with Pink Floyd and embarked on a solo career, his albums had some success .Gilmour-led era (1986–1994): Gilmour-led era (1986–1994) After the loss of Roger Waters, Dave Gilmour took charge of Pink Floyd working with Richard Wright who had returned and Nick Mason(drummer) also recruiting two new members. The Albums created during this time were Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell which still made quite an impact in Pink Floyd’s careerThe Lawsuit: The Lawsuit Waters tried to block a proposed Pink Floyd tour, by contacting every promoter in the US, threatening to sue if they used the Pink Floyd name. The tour still went on. Waters took the band to court. By November 1987 Waters appeared to admit defeat, and on 23 December a legal settlement was finally reached.The Loss of a True Musician: The Loss of a True Musician After suffering from diabetes for several years, Barrett died at his home in Cambridge on Friday 7 July 2006. He was 60 years old. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer. The occupation on his death certificate was given as "retired musician." He was cremated, with his ashes given to a family member or friend.Suffering Another Great Loss: Suffering Another Great Loss Richard Wright died of an undisclosed form of cancer in his home in the UK on 15 September 2008 at age 65. His death occurred one week before the release of David Gilmour's Live in Gdansk CD, on which he appeared. The album is the final Pink Floyd-related project to include Wright.One Last Time Together: One Last Time Together On Saturday 2 July 2005 at the Live 8 concert, the classic lineup of Pink Floyd performed together on stage for the first time in over 24 years. Although most of the members turned this down, they decided to do it for the those who with them anymore, most of all Syd Barret .Roger Waters Still Continues: Roger Waters Still Continues Roger Waters continued to tour his own written music as well as Pink Floyd’s music, even recently , he toured the album “The Wall” which received much success as it always did.
