Welcome To Your European Rights :

Welcome To Your European Rights The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union covers all rights pertaining to the EU's citizens, including those rights based in the European Convention on Human Rights and the European Social Charter

Slide 6:

According to the Charter's Preamble, its aim is "to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights in the light of changes in society, social progress and scientific and technological developments by making those rights more visible in a Charter."

Slide 7:

The rights guaranteed are divided into six chapters: Dignity Freedom Equality Solidarity Citizens' rights Justice

Slide 8:

The Convention established the European Court of Human Rights. Any person who feels his or her rights have been violated under the Convention by a state party can take a case to the Court. The decisions of the Court are not automatically legally binding, but the Court does have the power to award damages.

Human rights are more widely accepted than they have ever been. They have become part of the currency of international relations, and most countries participate in the human rights system. Treaty arrangements help encourage and pressure countries to deal with their human rights problems. The human rights project continues and has not failed. :
