History: 

History Rugby has been played on the island since the 1950s (British Military Sides based in Sovereign Base Areas) First Local Team played in 2003 (Paphos Tigers) CRF formed in 2006 Hosted European Nations Cup 3D Tournament in 2007 Accepted for Full Membership of FIRA AER – 2008

The Game: 

The Game Fifteens Hosted and won ENC Division 3D Tournament 2007 Lost promotion play-off to Israel Won ENC Division 3D in 2008-2010 Season Currently leading ENC Division 2D Remain undefeated in ENC League Competition

The Game Sevens Participation in FIRA AER Sevens over 4 Seasons (Tiblisi, Corfu, Athens, Split, Bucharest, Paphos, Gdansk, Hiedelberg) Achieved 4 th place in Athens and ranked 12 th in FIRA at the end of 2009 Season Achieved 5 th place (Plate Winners in Paphos and Heidelberg) Currently placed in Division A

The Game: 

The Game Community 3 Clubs – Paphos Tigers, Limassol Crusuaders, Nicosia Barbarians League and Cup Competitions with British Service Teams Paphos Tigers have “ownership” of pitch 2011 CRF took ownership of League in 2011/12 Insurance Cover achieved for all players and club officials in 2011/12 Each club has active Youth set-up

The Game The Players Due to the history of the Island, Cyprus’ dispersed population sit in traditional rugby countries (predominately UK and South Africa) Players playing in UK on semi-professional basis at Level 2 (England, Scotland and Wales) Senior squad in excess of 70 players Home-grown talent includes 3 players (aged 21, they only started playing aged 17)

Development : 

Development Hosted U17 Training Camp with Greece in 2007 (Two participants currently in Senior Squad) Hosted Level 1 and Level 2 Coaches and Officials Courses in 2009 and 2010 Introduction of Tag Rugby Scheme into Schools in 2010/11 Island wide Tag Rugby Tournaments hosted in Nicosia and Paphos Currently investigating possibility of U20 representative side

Communication: 

Communication Website (link) Use of Social Networking sites: (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc) Increased media coverage – now regularly featuring in Greek language papers Occasional coverage through on-island TV Attendance at Cyprus Wine Festival in London to raise profile of the sport in Cypriot Community Appearance in numerous world-wide publications (Rugby World, Cyprus Airways In-Flight Magazine) Feature on Total Rugby (clip)

Future Aspirations: 

Future Aspirations Organise on-island Tournament (Sevens) Qualified DO, Coach Educator, CPD events Extend Tag Rugby Scheme into more schools U20 Representative side Participation in Community Level cross-border competition Extend publicity to hubs of the Cypriot Community worldwide
