Premium member Presentation Transcript Getting Started in the Collaboratory: Presented April 30, 2004 By Lori Abrahams and Sherrie Sekyra Getting Started in the Collaboratory How we began ...: Past Symposiums and Conference Sessions opened my eyes to the possibilities. Summer Institute gave me the initial training and support. Grant opportunity for E2T2 allowed for training of a few of my colleagues to pilot a project with my support. How we began ... Build it and they will come!: Looked at the standards and curriculum over the summer. Planned a project based on a new novel that integrated with Social Studies. Invited teachers to join and luckily found an enthusiastic teacher who was planning new units. Build it and they will come! E2T2 Workshop: D46 Administrator supported the idea to train a team of teachers with an Information Specialist to pilot using the ePortfolio in the Collaboratory. Grant paid for substitutes to attend the training and stipends for after school planning sessions. E2T2 Workshop The First Project: Novel study integrated with study of the Middle Ages. Collaborated my vision with the teacher’s vision. Edited project as needed. Explored the various features in the Collaboratory with the students. The First Project Legend of Lady Ilena: Legend of Lady Ilena Legend of Lady Ilena: Legend of Lady Ilena Legend of Lady Ilena: Legend of Lady Ilena ePortfolio: ePortfolio Managing the Project: Managing the Project Project’s activities and resources needed to be planned and entered into the Collaboratory. Student accounts and access needed to be entered into groups. Binders and folders and access needed to be set up. Forum discussions and documents needed to be viewed. Our Second Project: Our Second Project Poetry Activities and Resources: Poetry Activities and Resources Survey: Survey Forum Discussion: Forum Discussion Cybrary: Cybrary ePortfolio Essay : ePortfolio Essay Sharing Documents: Sharing Documents Sharing Documents: Sharing Documents The Project at a Glance: The Project at a Glance Teacher Comments: Teacher Comments Next Steps: Next Steps Plan future projects that can be timed so that other classes are working on the project at the same time to allow for conferencing and more interactions.
