What is CERGE-EI: 

What is CERGE-EI Joint academic workplace of Charles University and Economics Institute of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Founded in 1991, part of Charles University (1348) Internationally minded institution with academic staff from all over the world

Winning Awards Full accreditation in the United States (one of few such institutions in Europe) Full accreditation in the Czech Republic

Program Features: 

Program Features Modern post-graduate training in the field of economics Studies are conducted in English CERGE-EI graduates have assumed high-level positions in government, international institutions, universities, research institutes, private-sector firms The program is tuition-free for most of the students All students receive stipends

Seminars CERGE-EI regularly holds academic and business presentation seminars Frequent research seminars keep students in touch with the latest developments in science Presentations were given by John Reed (Citicorp), Top Management of Coca-Cola…. Academic seminars included such people as Gary Becker (Nobel Laureate), Kenneth Arrow (Nobel Laureate), Finn Kydland (Nobel Laureate)… Other speakers include Madelaine Albright (former U.S. Secretary of State), Vaclav Klaus (former Czech Prezident)..

Studying at CERGE-EI: 

Studying at CERGE-EI Preparatory Semester First Year Second Year Dissertation Stage

Preparatory Semester: 

Preparatory Semester Takes two months (July and August). Consists of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics and English. Final admission depends on the candidate’s performance in the preparatory semester.

First Year: 

First Year All students follow a common curriculum First year consists of Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics Emphasis on developing English skills Finished by General Exam

Second Year: 

Second Year Students take specialized courses Second year students must complete three different specializations Finished at least by two General Exams

Dissertation Stage: 

Dissertation Stage In the Summer Semester of their second year, students participate in a seminar in directed research There, under the guidance of leading academic researchers, they formulate a thesis proposal Dissertation thesis would be the outcome of the final two years of study

Student Mobility: 

Student Mobility Most students go to study at prestigious US or Western Europe universities From one semester up to one year Schools, where the mobilities of CERGE-EI students took place include Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Sorbonne, UC Berkeley etc. CERGE-EI supports Summer School participation of its students

Admission Process: 

Admission Process Requirements: - English - Previous studies of Economics is not necessary - Mathematical background is helpful Deadline for Application: MARCH 30, 2006
