HOW TO CONTROL BUGS AND PESTS DURING OUTDOOR EVENTS Living in Arkansas we know that dealing with bugs during the summertime is almost unavoidable. However there are many things you can do to help reduce the number of bugs in your yard during the summer. We suggest trying a few of these ideas so you can enjoy your outdoor spaces without so many creepy crawlies Eliminate Standing Water Mosquitoes love to lay eggs on standing ground water. Go around your yard and check for any areas where water collects: uneven gutters kiddie pools buckets you left behind the garage those planter trays you have laying around to use etc. For things like rain barrels buy some window screen and fasten it to the top of the barrel to help keep the mosquitoes from landing on the ground. For things like big bird baths or garden ground features add a little pump to shake the outside this will discourage mosquitoes from landing to lay eggs. Keep Food Covered When you are outside enjoying a summer meal on your patio remember to keep your food covered when you’re not eating. It’s not going to stop flies from trying to

eat your food but it’ll cut back on it and help keep them from putting their small disgusting hands on your salad. Flies enjoy garbage and rodents love the sugary residue in recyclables. Moving both away from your outdoor entertaining area will cut back on the flies buzzing around the patio table and the rodents crawling around near the house. You’ll find metal and nylon mesh food tents at the local grocer or online. While eliminating standing water and moving your trash cans behind the garage can help sometimes you have to get your hands dirty and invest a bit of time money and perspiration into making your garden more unpleasant for bugs. Use Organic Essential Oil as Repellants The right oils are workable deterrents. Purchase some tiki torches along with the oils and load them up with citronella-infused lamp oil or make your very own citronella candles.
