What Is National Insurance Number National insurance number is known as NI. It is your personal account number. Anyone who works or studies in the UK requires an NI Number. It also a reference number when communicating with the department for communities and HM Revenue & Customs(HMRC).

If you wish to study in UK you'll be required by law to have national insurance number. This is a code number which is unique, and will identify you to the tax collection department of the govt.
