BUCKINGHAM PALACE It is the home of Queen Elizabeth II and the British Royal family. If the flag is on the Palace, the Queen is at home. The Palace is like a small town with... more than 600 rooms 240 bedrooms 78 bathrooms a swimming pool a police station 2 post offices a hospital a cinema More than 700 people work there! This is a Queen's Guard : his hat is called "bearskin": it is made of real Canadian brown bear skin!

The Tower of London was built as a fortress on the banks of river Thames, but it was then used as a prison : prisoners were kept in the White Tower, or Bloody Tower, and then executed with a long sharp axe.

The guards at the Tower of London are called BEEFEATERS : this name comes from the time when their salary was partly paid with pieces of beef meat! At theTower of London live seven ravens . The legend has it that if the ravens leave the Tower of London, Tower and Monarchy will fall! That is why one of the ravens' wings is clipped so that they can't fly away.

Today you can visit the Tower of London and in the museum you can see the Crown Jewels . Look! The Crown Swords The Orb. A very very big diamond! The sceptre Young Queen Elizabeth II with the orb and the sceptre.

Near The Tower of London there is a very famous bridge, Tower Bridge . Cars can drive over Tower bridge, but sometimes the bridge opens to let ships pass on River Thames.

Getting around The London underground is the oldest of the World! It is very very big and it is called THE TUBE .
