Criterion tutorial : 

Criterion tutorial A computer writing program

Slide 2: 

Students, periodically, will be assigned to write an essay

Slide 3: 

This essay will be: written on the computer and submitted on the computer (all through the Criterion program)

Slide 4: 

The teacher either: makes up topic or chooses from the Criterion library.

Slide 5: 

there will be a start time and an end time to do this essay and get a grade this will be clearly stated on Criterion and again by the teacher on Edline

Slide 6: 

during the specified time : the student will need to get on: <criterion.ets.org> and read prompt and details

Slide 7: 

Student needs to log on using the ID and password (assigned by administrator-teacher)

Slide 8: 

student will have a limited amount of time (days or hours) to do this essay before time runs out

Slide 9: 

after that: student can no longer access that prompt

Slide 10: 

If time allowed lapses without the student accessing that prompt, he/she will:1. receive a “0” for that assignment2. do assignment on paper/pen

Slide 11: 

during that “open” and accessible time, student will be able to “submit” the essay a limited amount of times. (this will be set by teacher and stated on Criterion)

Slide 12: 

After end date: student will no longer be able to submit/change/or work on that essay.

Slide 13: 

during the “open” time frame for submission(s): student will be able to view his/her Criterion score (4/6,6/6) and the reasons for that score (click on “View trait feedback analysis”).

Slide 14: 

In this screen the student can see 5 categories: Grammar, Usage, Mechanics, Style, and Organization and Development.

Slide 15: 

Or be able to see all the scores at one time…each of the categories is color-coded. Or click on any error to see the reason why that score

Slide 16: 

There is an on-line handbook available at any time so student can see the rules(see upper right corner of screen)

Slide 17: 

Students and teachers can send comments back and forth discussing issues that might arise during the open time frame(this can be done from any computer)
