The lessons could be learnt from SARS break in mainland of China Lessons 1: Both ignorance and panic are unreasonable to a new emerging disease Lessons 2: General rules of infectious disease will not change a lot. Lessons 3: The roles played by government should be re- considered. Lessons 4: National and international collaboration as well as inter-laboratories is permanently needed Lessons 5: SARS CoV vaccine develop: a tasty dinner? or a deluxe banquet? www.miaoxh.com

Slide15:

Follow Koch’s rule: Multi-ways to transmit but in a main manner Clinical presentation may provide some clues Transmitting chain can be broken when proper measures are utilized Any causative agents infection always lead to different outcomes Is it not infectious during the latent period? What is the original reservoir? Rivet? Bat ?Or other wild animals? SARS “Gone with the wind”? www.miaoxh.com Lessons 2: General rules of infectious disease will not change a lot.

Slide17:

To be honest and tell pubic the truth at any time Do not interfere in researcher’s researches but support them Decision making should be based on the data from scientific survey and query a visible public health center is not equal to an invisible public health system ask experts and medical organization for making decision open up to the outside world Much more money is needed to establish and solid the public health system www.miaoxh.com Lessons 3: The roles played by government should be re-considered

Stage 1: early stage when SARS-CoV was discovered Stage 2: late stage when SARS has gone and dose not appear again Two questions remain to be answered: 1. How and can we prove the protectiveness of any kinds of vaccine? 2. Can and which animal model mimic human immune- response to SARS-CoV? www.miaoxh.com Lessons 5: SARS CoV vaccine develop: a tasty dinner? or a deluxe banquet?

Slide22:

Some questions should be cautiously answered 1. Is Osterporosis (thighbone necrosis) a often seen? 2. Does pulmonary fibrosis persistently advance in rehabilitation patient? 3. Can SARS-CoV be used as a bio-weapon in future local war? 4. What shall we do post SARS era? 5. Have lessons really been learnt and switched to be experience? 6. Can laboratory infection surely be prevented? 7. Are we prepared to another unprecedent new emerging infectious disease? 8. ……? www.miaoxh.com

Slide23:

As early as in the middle period of last century(1957) Pietrogrand reported the first case who had osteroporosis with complicated pathophyslogical mechanism caused by the overdose use of steroid. In SARS patients, osteroporosis were observed but fortunately it was not very common and not serious. Osteroporosis www.miaoxh.com

Slide25:

Since as high as 80% of SARS patients have interstitial lung damage, namely with acute lung injury (ALI) ,or even with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), it could be explained that pulmonary fibrosis may developed in recovered patients. Pulmonary Fibrosis www.miaoxh.com
