Italian Tribes: 

The Roman Empire begins as many smaller groups of Italian tribes. Between 900 and 500 BCE, the peninsula was settled by the Etruscans, a group from possibly Asia Minor or the Eastern Mediterranean. Etruscans brought urban civilization to Italy. Etruscans had a Greek-like religion and language, strong background in sculpture. As the Etruscans grew in power, a small group who settled along the Tiber River grew in the Etruscan shadow: The Romans. Italian Tribes
