Slide 4:

Likes Genre- Action/ Science-Fiction Avatar Link to part 1/opening scene unavailable.

Slide 5:

1) How the fast music was played before the explosion happened, as when it happened it wasn’t as much of a shock. (slightly slower paced music should have been used to relax the audience so when explosion happened it comes as a bigger shock to them). Likes Genre-Action/ Crime/ Thriller Die Hard With A Vengeance Dislikes Link to part 1/opening scene unavailable.

Slide 6:

1) Bold classical music gives an adventurous/ heroic atmosphere. 2) Low angle long shot. (shows full length of main character). 3) Point of view shot. (shows what the character is looking at). 4) Extreme close up on main characters eyes. 5) Low angle shot (with Stuarts face in it) showing mother upstairs, reveals smallness of character. 6) Close ups of characters, shows their emotions. 7) Low level shots showing small characters. 8) Shot reverse shots showing two characters are talking to each other. 9) Actions/ gestures of cats, (e.g. cat playing with leaf, reminds audience that they are still animals even though they speak). 10) Establishing shot of city. Likes Genre- Animation/ Family/ Fantasy Stuart little 3 Dislikes 1) Opening presentations last for too long. Link to part 1/opening scene unavailable.

Slide 7:

Link to part 1/opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-u3fQOOZ34 1) Close ups of actions. 2) Mise en-scene. Good costumes and gestures, (grooms coat before he picks it up, shows his character is a stickler for detail). 3) Dark lighting, gives feeling of obscurity and creepiness. 4) Close ups used to show characters emotions. 5) Low angle shot of two main characters talking, shows they are important/ authoritative figures. 6) Good use of ambient and diegetic sounds. 7) How flash to black transition is used to introduce the opening titles. 8) Saturated colours. 9) The presentation of the opening credits, (very eye-catching). 10) How shots just before and after the opening credits link together, (both main characters are in their beds). 1) A lot of close ups/ extreme close ups were used. I think it would have been better to have more shots further back so audience had an opportunity to take in the full surroundings. Likes Genre- Crime/ Drama/ Mystery/ Thriller Se7en Dislikes

Slide 8:

Link to part 1/opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEZK7mJoPLY Likes Credits written in hand writing looking font, corresponds to man writing in book. Music sounds scratchy, there’s no repeated or on going rhythm. (creates creepy atmosphere). Credits and actions are mostly kept separate, some, however, are overlaid on top of actions. (credits presented mainly on black background). Words flash, pulsate, go in and out of focus, reverse themselves and jerk back and forth on the screen. (generates an eerie and rough impression). Extreme close ups used throughout opening credits on actions person is making. (gives the feeling of claustrophobia and shows extreme detail). Some words in full capitals, others start with capitals and then have lower case. (gives a variation). Titles in capitals, like MUSIC BY, names start in capitals but also use lower case , like Brad Pitt. Background flickers and has unsaturated colours. Shadowing is also used to give a disturbing feel. random numbers and words flash up on the screen in a fast and blurry manner. Only words in song are used at the very end. (creates a dramatic ending to the titles). Dislikes Some of the text isn’t clear. (can’t see the names/ words properly). Observations from Credits (Items included) ‘NEW LINE CINEMA PRESENTS’ ‘AN Arnold Kopelson PRODUCTION’ ‘A Film by David Fincher’ ‘Brad Pitt’- plays main character ‘Morgan Freeman’- plays main character ‘Seven’- film title (followed by various other actors names) CASTING BY MUSIC BY COSTUMES DESIGNED BY EDITED BY PRODUCTION DESIGNED BY DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY CO-PRODUCERS CO-EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS WRITTEN BY- PRODUCED BY DIRECTED BY Opening Titles of ‘Se7en’

Slide 9:

Link to part 1/opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Kjg6jLgQ8 1) The use of the first two characters seen. Unsure of what they have to do with the film. Confusing. 2) The way the credits still continued through the scene after the black transition. They were too long and distracting from what was happening. Likes Genre- Foreign/ Horror The Grudge Dislikes

Slide 10:

Observations from Credits (Items included) ‘SAM RAIMI AND COLUMBIA PICTURES PRESENT’ ‘A GHOST HOUSE PICTURES PRODUCTION’- A FILM BY SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR- plays main character THE GRUDGE- name of film CASTING BY MUSIC BY EDITOR PRODUCTION DESIGNER DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY CO-PRODUCERS EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS PRODUCED BY ‘BASED ON “JU-ON: THE GRUDGE”’ WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY SCREEN PLAY BY Likes Use of creepy music to set the tone of the film. Red writing used to resemble blood. Capitals used to present most words. (very prominent and bulky, stand out). How some of the words were presents on black background, but others were then overlaid on to moving actions which correspond to the film. How the main names of people/ names of companies are larger than the less important words. How a water and hair effects were used to blend the words on and off the screen. How the text was then overlaid onto main moving pictures of the film, (Links the flow of the titles and the film together). Text then changes to white, but fades off blood red. The gentle fade used to get words up and off of the screen puts forward and eerie atmosphere. How the credits pop up at different points on the screen, (gives the sense something is watching and also moving around the screen) Dislikes I think it would have been better all of the credits were presented in the same way, to keep it consistent and keep a running theme. Opening Titles of ‘The Grudge’

Slide 13:

1) Opening titles- short and clear to read. 2) Pan shot of environment. 3). Costumes, sets era. 4) Mise en-scene props. (also sets era). 5) Point of view shot, looking through binoculars. 6) Use of rule of thirds on close up of Lassie. (makes shot more interesting). 7) Low-level shots of dogs running and horses hooves. 8) Close-ups to show annoyed facial features of humans. 1) Music could have been a bit more tense in the shots of the fox hunting, and calmer when it got away. (for higher tension and relief factor). Likes Genre- Family/ Adventure/ Drama Lassie Dislikes Link to part 1/ opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QYmcaTMjJo

Slide 14:

Likes Genre- Crime/ Drama/ Thriller Lord of War Link to part 1/ opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KGu0FMDJfk

Observations from Credits (Items included) ‘NICOLAS CAGE’- plays main character LORD OF WAR- name of film MUSIC BY COSTUME DESIGNER EDITED BY PRODUCTION DESIGNER DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY EXECUTIVE LINE PRODUCER CO-PRODUCER EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS PRODUCERS PRODUCED BY WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY Likes Use of contrapuntal music. (opposes the true violence behind the making of the bullets). How the text is overlaid on the background while the bullets are moving around the factory. How all of the writing is presented in capitals. (makes it bold and standout). The writing is very neat and stands tall. Very structured and has sharp corners/angles. (reminds me of machinery). Consistent fonts. How the less important words are smaller than the names of people. (shows they are significant). How the text is very simple. (only the important things are being shown, nothing that isn’t necessary). The writing is in small amounts meaning it doesn’t overwhelm the people watching. Dislikes Because the writing is white it is sometimes quite hard to see on the brighter backgrounds. Opening Titles of ‘Lord of War’

Likes Genre- Action Link to part 1/ opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOUKcz9ZNqA Dante’s Peak Dislikes 1) I think there should have been more close-ups on peoples faces to show the terror in their eyes, so the audience could have connected with them more.

Slide 18:

Likes Genre- Adventure/ Family/ Science Fiction Back to the Future Link to part 1/opening scene unavailable.

Slide 19:

1) Confusing how early the news reporters voices come on and, also how the voices are overlaid on the introduction presentations/titles. Almost out of place. Likes Genre- Science Fiction/ Drama/ Thriller I Am Legend Dislikes Link to part 1/opening scene unavailable.

Slide 20:

Likes Genre- Western/ Adventure Link to part 1/ opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRw00jaFgo4 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Dislikes 1) Use of typical Western style music because it sets the atmosphere. 2) Use of edited in gunshot sounds in opening credits. (keeps it interesting). 3) Use of close up/ extreme close up pictures of characters. (get to see each individual). 4) The quick pace of changing images. 1) Opening titles are very long. 2) Amount of writing in the opening titles. 3) Some of the writing was a bit hard to read and flashed on and off of the screen too quickly.

(sets the mood for the movie). Use of the edited in gun shots, (gets audiences attention and also sets atmosphere for film). How all of the important words, (names) are in capitals and the rest is in lower case. (makes important things stand out). The western style fonts, (runs with the western theme). The use of images from the film to present the opening credits on. The variety of colour used. (keeps it interesting). Different effects used to transition text/ images on and off the screen, (e.g. the ink and water effect, the sand effect, the flash on and off effect and the gunshot explosion/wipe effect). Dislikes The titles run on for to long, (after a while they get a bit tedious, because you just want the film to begin). The wide variety of fonts used. (I think it would have been better to stick with a select few, (to much variation)). Opening Titles of ‘The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’

How the text is overlaid on to moving background. (allows audience to look at other things going on if they don’t want to look at the text). The gold text, (gives a royal feeling). How the gold colour and font of the text contrasts the background. (text looks regal, background is just a normal/ everyday). Use of capital letters to start every new word. Use of simple fade effect to get text on and off of the screen. Dislikes The main names/information doesn’t stand out as much because the size of the text looks similar. Opening Titles of ‘The Princess Diaries’

Slide 26:

1) Slow zoom out of close up on main character. (like he is coming out of a trance). 2) Shallow focus, (can see main character and things behind him are blurry, (makes audience pay attention to him)). 3) Props/ set well put together. (makes it look really realistic). 4) Behind the shoulder shots of characters talking. 5) Good use of ambient sounds in the background. 6) Slow zoom in of close up on main character. (like he is going into a trance/ thinking about something else). 7) Use of the ringing bell sound at the beginning and end of the opening. (links it together). 10) I think some shots further away should have been used, e.g. Long shot. (so audience had a chance to see other things that were happening around the characters, as well as to get a better look at them). Likes Genre- Comedy/ Horror Shaun of the Dead Dislikes Link to part 1/opening scene unavailable.

Use of both capital letters to start each word and lower case to follow. Font used. (smooth curves and flicks out). Use of classic Christmas colours, (red and gold), used to show writing. How names are written in red and gold but less important words are only written in gold. When the glow of gold light smoothly shines over the whole word whenever a new one appears on screen. Use of bright and bold colours used in the background and text. How the writing goes with the scrap book presentation. How all of the letters are in capitals. How the colours are only used in the text that are names/ important and all other words are white. 3D looking font effect. The pictures of the main characters in the book. (get to see them up close even before the film starts, the audience is also able to get an idea of what sort of person the main character is as the scrap book would be personal to her). When ‘Amanda Bynes and Chris Carmack’s’ name came up on the credits it went to a picture of each of their characters. How things in scrap book hint to what is going to happen next, (e.g. The concert tickets and calendar). How the credits are overlaid onto concert scene and pulsate like it is dancing. Dislikes Writing sometimes blends into the background too much. Opening Titles of ‘Love Wrecked’

How the writing is on the screen at the same time as the motion picture, but not actually over the motion picture itself all of the time. (separates the two things and is also unusual). Text is bold and easy to read. (simple colours and fonts were used the whole way through to keep a running theme). Use of shadowing/ blocked vision. (mysterious). The extreme close ups on the maps/ documents. (shows importance). How certain words/ images from the maps and documents are highlighted on the screen. (gives audience an idea of what man is doing). How the camera switches back and forth from inside a room to the outside location. (links the two places together).
