Majority believe parenting begins at birth Majority is 9 months late in starting All physiological systems have already been made and are functional at birth Basis for the newer beliefs : Basis for the newer beliefs Mounting evidence for memory, learning and bonding in utero Babies in the womb develop much faster than previously thought Babies have been shown to react to voices, music, games and conversations Use of every organ is essential for its further development Some Birth defects as example : Some Birth defects as example Embryonic heart pulsations start at 3 weeks while heart chambers and valves form much later Proper function of primitive heart is essential for its accurate structural development Stenotic aortic valve leads to hypoplastic left ventricle and atrium- a condition incompatible with life later on Slide 5: Similarly absence of emotional and social interaction with fetus may lead to delayed learning later Happy mother leads to a happy baby 4D image of a baby smiling Fetal senses : Fetal senses Movement 6-10 weeks Swallowing 10 weeks Taste 14 weeks Smell 15 weeks Reactive listening 16 weeks Response of fetus to stimulus : Response of fetus to stimulus Fetal heart rate increases in response to light, pain, maternal laughing and coughing Amniocentesis prick leads to withdrawal or sometimes actual attacking of the needle Chemical evidence of pain perception: Needle prick for intra-ut blood transfusion leads to 500% increase in B-endorphins and 180% increase in cortisol levels Negative impacts- physical : Overwork Under nutrition Alcohol intake Smoking Stress All these lead to IUGR, premature delivery Over nutrition May lead to HT or Diabetes in mother with serious consequences on fetal well being Negative impacts- physical Negative Impact - Psychological : Negative Impact - Psychological Anger, fear, anxiety in mother incite negative reactions in fetus which may be carried forward later in life Children born in conflicting and confused parental relations have social adjustment problems Fetuses are known to aggressively react if mother listens to roaring of a lion or watches loud war movie or concerts Positive impacts- physical : Positive impacts- physical A happy and caring mother is well nourished and relaxed. Adequate rest means more blood flow to fetus Adequate nutrition means ample supply of all the elements for baby’s growth Relaxed mother also has more chances of normal and easy delivery at full term Positive impacts - psychology : Positive impacts - psychology Parental psychological well being gives emotional sensitivity and security to the developing mind of baby Maternal speech is clearly heard and acts as language lessons before birth Music : Prelinguistic language which nourishes and stimulates the fetus Telepathic connection : Telepathic connection Mother and baby are two synchronized computers and they communicate with each other in the deep layers of their subconscious mind Positive parental thinking and actions provide a nourishing stimulus to emotional, intellectual and social development of the baby and give him internal sense of beauty Osaka pre-birth education program : Osaka pre-birth education program Dr. Morimoto educated 7000 fetuses in second and third trimesters and obtained significantly good results His pre-birth educational program included relaxation and breathing exercises, self hypnosis, speaking and singing to children and thinking positive in general etc. 95% mothers felt the positive effects of prog. 80% felt the children were more friendly and sociable.
