Conventions of a Poster :

Conventions of a Poster The Film Title is shown in the unique font of the production. The Tagline is a dramatic sentence or phrase that links to the theme or story of the film. The Release Date tells the audience when the film will be shown in the cinema. The Credits / Billing Block shows the names of actors and major crew members. The Base Image of a poster shows an image of the film which is not usually shown in the feature itself. The Social Media information is shown at the bottom of the poster in small font.

Inception Poster:

Inception Poster A starring actor’s name is shown at the top of the poster to attract fans of the actor to the film. The base image shows the main character in a surreal landscape which links to the storyline of the movie. The film title is shown at the bottom of the poster in a technology-themed red font. The billing block shows the names of crew members and actors The release date is displayed at the bottom of poster after the billing block. The tagline gives a hint to the storyline of the film and creates intrigue among the potential audience.

Cloverfield Poster :

Cloverfield Poster The Base Image of this poster shows a postmodern New York City skyline that has been destroyed by an unseen monster. The tagline ‘something has found us’ is shown in sans-serif white letters. The phrase links to the monster theme and adds to the mystery and threat implied by the base image. The release date is shown in a similar, digital style font to the main title. The billing block shows the actors names and main crew members. The film title is shown in a unique font with a light effect shining through the text. The production company logos are shown in s simplified style at the end of the billing block.

Avatar Poster :

Avatar Poster The base image of this poster shows the protagonist’s face in both his human and ‘avatar’ form, linking to the story of the film. The film title is shown in unique style font of the production. The font links to the culture of the indigenous characters people in the film. The billing block shows actor and key crew member names. The production company logos are shown as part of the billing block in a simplified style. This poster in particular does not include a release date or tagline . This could be a result of the poster being used as an early teaser.
