HOW TO ADD A DIAGNOSIS IN NDRS (SARS, WEST NILE FEVER, MRSA): 

HOW TO ADD A DIAGNOSIS IN NDRS (SARS, WEST NILE FEVER, MRSA) NDRS 3.0 is a Microsoft™ Access database application used for reporting certain diseases and conditions adversely affecting Fleet and Force readiness. It's easy to install, and is mandated for the reporting of the diseases and conditions on the Tri-Service Reportable List, per BUMED INSTR 6220.12A. This tutorial addresses the PrevMed user that is already familiar with NDRS and knows the mandated reporting requirement and process. IF YOU ARE A FIRST-TIME USER OF NDRS, go to the NDRS area of the NEHC website to review the specifics of installation and the BUMED INSTR 6220.12A. A PowerPoint Presentation titled "An Overview of Implementing NDRS 3.0" is available for download.      Administrative control of the local computer is needed to install NDRS. Adding A Diagnosis to NDRS This tutorial is to describe how to add any diagnosis to NDRS pick list, conditions such as SARS - reported under the diagnosis code of 519.8, or WEST NILE FEVER, diagnosis code of 066.4, new to the Tri-Service Reportable Medical Events as of May 2004. MRSA doesn't have it's own ICD-9, but is reported under 799 - Any Unusual Clustering of Disease or Symptoms This will allow Navy Medicine to add diagnoses to NDRS as new conditions are added to the Tri-Service List, and the user can change the ICD-9 for a particular diagnosis when the ICD-9 is revised. Go into the Program Configuration window from the NDRS main switchboard. It should be valued with details of your UIC. Select the "Edit NDRS Diagnosis List" button.

Adding A Diagnosis to NDRS The Diagnosis List in NDRS reflects the diseases and conditions listed on the Tri-Service Reportable List, and allows the modification and addition of newer diagnoses. This window describes the reporting criteria and specifics of each reportable medical event (RME).

Adding A Diagnosis to NDRS Select "Add New Entry" to add the new diagnosis to the diagnosis list.

Adding A Diagnosis to NDRS Complete the fields to the best of your knowledge to finish the entry. Information entered here will trigger reminder prompts in the program, esp to report within 24 hours. Any diagnosis can be added here. When finished, select "Add New Entry".

Adding A Diagnosis to NDRS Follow the regular procedure for entering a MER and when you get to the drop-down Diagnosis window, diagnosis you just entered is now available. Get as much travel/contact information from the patient or medical record as possible. Note the new diagnosis will display to the right of the Diagnosis window.

In the case of SARS, contact your NEPMU or NEHC within 24 hours for any confirmed or suspected case of SEVERE ACUTE RESPIRATORY SYNDROME (SARS) based on criteria described in CNO Message of 19 MAR 2003.
