An Introduction to searching Ebsco databases Ebsco Databases Prepared by Kit Keller Director of Library Services & Student Achievement ©2010 First…what is Ebsco?? : First…what is Ebsco?? Ebsco is a company that provides subscription access to online databases. Chancellor University subscribes to a selection of databases through Ebsco. Databases can be searched in as a group of databases, or individually. Ebsco allows you to create a personal folder (MyEbscoHost) where you can save articles. Where do I find it? : Where do I find it? At the Library page, click on the link for Articles & Databases Scroll down to see the list of databases. Slide 4: Select the appropriate option: On-Campus or Off-Campus Type last name. Then type your whole student ID number: P000012345 (example) This is the next screen you see: Slide 5: Use the search boxes to put in your search terms (keywords): You can change the AND to OR Your search terms should be words that describe your topic. For example, let’s say you are doing a research paper about the death penalty. Some keywords to search with would be death penalty or capital punishment. Slide 6: Click on the green Search button, or hit enter to see results. Below is the first page of search results, showing the first article in a list of 4,915 articles. Slide 7: Let’s look at the parts of this article… Title of Journal: Vanderbilt Law Review Publication Date: March 2010 Volume Number: 63 Issue Number: 2 Page Numbers: 305-359 Slide 8: There are two ways to view the text of the article… 1. Click on the PDF Full Text image 2. Click on the title of the article. In the next tutorial, we will explore more advanced options in Ebsco.
