Doug Landis was born on February 15, 1959 in Fresno. He wasn’t an artist until a high school wrestling accident left him quadriplegic, paralyzed from the neck down in January of 1975 at the age of 15.
Concerned that Doug was spending too much time in front of the television set, Doug’s brother, Monte, challenged him to draw and placed a pencil in Doug’s mouth. Doug practiced and with time and patience his style, known for its fine, intricate detail, emerged. For more about Doug Landis

"I like to draw because it’s something I can do where I don’t need much help once I set up, I have a lot of control over it, and I’m my own person once I am working on it. There is a freedom in that…I found a talent in myself that leads me to believe that everybody has talents. Everybody can find something in themselves."
