What is Town on the Move: 

What is Town on the Move In 2004, following bidding process involving 51 towns, three towns chosen by Department for Transport as sustainable travel demonstration towns (Darlington, Peterborough and Worcester) Revenue funding of £3.24 million, spread over five years, to reduce congestion through development of sustainable transport initiatives.

Individualised Travel Marketing: 

Individualised Travel Marketing Steer Davies Gleave appointed to carry out programme of individualised travel marketing. ALL homes in Darlington contacted between 2005 and 2007 with offer of free personalised journey planning.

Bus information: 

Bus information Stop specific timetables at every bus stop in Darlington. Town wide bus map showing Monday to Saturday daytime services. Town wide bus map showing Sunday and evening services. Area specific bus maps. Real time information

School Travel Plans: 

School Travel Plans 11 schools have Travel Plans 8 in progress (will be completed by March 2006) Cycle training – free to all year 6 pupils Pedestrian training Walk to School Weeks (May and October) Bike to School Week with Bike IT (Heathfield Primary School second best in UK)

Workplace travel plans: 

Workplace travel plans Workplace travel plan officer part funded by Town on the Move - working with Darlington employers 12 travel plans in place or being worked on

Travel Awareness Marketing: 

Travel Awareness Marketing Website www.darlingtononthemove.org.uk Bus shelter (Adshel) adverts Bus Backs / Bus Sides Parking Tickets Radio Bookmarks Town Crier Marketing/PR company employed to focus marketing strategy

Community Street Audits: 

Community Street Audits Living Streets contracted to carry out community street audits in four areas of town centre. Recommendations on how ‘pedestrian experience’ can be enhanced.

Cycle Network Improvements: 

Cycle Network Improvements Cycle City Guides employed to examine entire cycle network and make recommendations on extensions / improvements.

Events Programme: 

Events Programme Cycling Guided rides Company of Cyclists Walking Countryside, Health, Historical Walking Festival School Walk to School Week Bike to School Week In Town Without My Car Day

Car Share Schemes: 

Car Share Schemes Aim to reduce single occupancy car trips by encouraging car sharing Can be used for ANY trip involving car Online database of interested drivers (www.2plustravel.com)

Public Transport Promotions: 

Public Transport Promotions Extension of Concessionary Bus Fare Scheme to include ALL 16 year olds and under in Darlington Borough
