Screen Grab 2::

Screen Grab 2: Shown at 0:19-0:20 This clip is shown at the beginning of the trailer, showing the basic idea of how the story begins.

Sticking to the Conventions::

Sticking to the Conventions: This is an ‘action shot’ which shows to the audience a brief idea on how the story begins. The setting sticks to the conventions well, as it is placed in a dark room with the only source of light being candle light. This works well as in the majority of supernatural horrors, the basic idea of how the story begins, tends to set the mood of what genre film it will be. For example, in our media piece, there are two girls playing with a Ouija board in the dark with candle . This suggests to the audience that it will be a supernatural horror, as we relate Ouija Boards , with the devil spirits. The clothing the characters are dressed in develops the conventions of a supernatural horror, as they are shown to be dressed in their night clothes, which is displayed as to be the normal codes and conventions in most supernatural films, reflected mostly in the teaser trailers.

Challenges::

Challenges: Even though the clothing of the characters meets the codes and conventions, it develops them, as well as challenges them, as we dressed our main character in more modern use of nightclothes. The idea of dressing the main chacrater in a more modern form of night wear, is to give the teaser trailer a sense of postmodernism. In the films The exorcism of Emily rose and the last exorcism, the main characters are dressed in long plain old fashioned night wear, which sets the time back, so dressing our main charcter in modern night clothes, bring the postemodern element to our teaser trailer. However, this shot does challenge the general conventions of reel supernatural teaser trailers, because this shot is one shot in the stages of showing how the story begins. Normally there is only one shot that displays what is happening, which lasts a few seconds, but we put together 3 quick shots, to show to the viewer what is happening. The reason we decided to use three shots, was to show the viewer what is happening from a variety of angles. This helped the audience fully understand what the characters were doing, and can start to guess what the possible implications of their actions might be.

The Trio Shot….:

The Trio Shot…. The first one shows the main characters hands, which suggests to the audience that they are the main character which the events will happen to. The second shot is a mid shot, which establishes what location it is set in, and the third a high angle which then displays, fully to the viewer, what the characters are taking part in.
