What is Dreams + Teams?: 

What is Dreams + Teams? Youth Sport Trust in partnership with British Council Operational since 2001 International school linking programme between UK and overseas Sports leadership is catalyst of partnership

Dreams+Teams: 

Dreams+Teams Now working in 44 countries across 4 continents 250 secondary schools involved By 2010 500 UK schools and sports colleges involved. Strategic Mapping Objectives: Learn from (and with) each other’s best practice Whole school improvement Cross-cultural understanding Build local capacity Development of ‘global citizens’

D + T Africa - Why are we doing it?: 

D + T Africa - Why are we doing it? To reach more people in Africa; 50% of the population in Sub-Saharan Africa is under 15. Sport is relevant, powerful and reaches large numbers. To increase international awareness, improve perceptions, breakdown stereotypes To demonstrate the power of sport as a tool for young people’s development To support international education objectives in the UK and Africa To promote equity in school partnerships

Dreams + Teams, Africa Connecting Classrooms overall project aim of 500 school links between UK and Africa. D+T will represent 200 of those school links. Working within 19 countries across 2 British Council regions in Africa: EWA - East West Africa SA – Southern Africa

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One : 

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One UK schools invited to attend briefing 18th July 2007. School briefed and Application Form completed by end of term. Selection committee meet to discuss application forms. This will be made up of representatives from the British Council and Youth Sport Trust. Schools informed if application was successful and who their partner school and link country as soon as application has been received. Confirmation of seminar details will be sent out to schools

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One : 

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One 5. Head teacher and link teacher from UK and African schools attend one of three seminars: Aim: To develop cross-cultural awareness and develop ideas on how to build and sustain a partnership 6th to 8th October 2007 – Johannesburg, South Africa (SA) Location of seminar will be dependent on geographical mapping to particular country or region of Africa.

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One: 

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One Seminar will start on Saturday afternoon (time to be confirmed) and finish on Monday afternoon. Head teachers will have a separate session to link teachers exploring African and UK leadership themes delivered by trained African facilitators. 6. At the end of the seminar the UK head and link teacher return to your partner school to spend the rest of the week in Zambia. Fly out Tuesday am. - Accommodation - Travel to and from airport - Funding will be provided to cover these costs

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One 7. African school reciprocal visit to UK before end March 2008. Dates to be finalised at workshop. No seminar on return visit, where possible recommend schools go out as a group. Partnership Plan finalised during visit Flights and accommodation are funded for both visits. Medical inoculations, insurance, visas and some in country costs will have to be met by local funding / schools.

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year One What is covered by funding: Costs for attendance at seminar will be covered by project. Accommodation and some subsistence in Africa. Allowance to cover your flights, and UK costs for hosting African delegates. What is not covered by funding: Purchasing of equipment for African school eg laptops Medical and travel insurance Inoculations Visas

Dreams + Teams, Africa Year Two + Three 2K school linking activity – to be used for joint work between UK and African school Examples of school linking work as agreed in Partnership Plan: Joint curriculum projects Video-conf and email exchanges Joint festivals Exchanges Producing resource materials etc 3K African based training – to be managed by YST and British Council D+T training of Local Tutors & Young Leaders takes place. Young Leaders arrange festivals/activities supported by materials Wider community engaged

Your next steps Do you want to be involved in D+T? 1. If yes please complete the application form and return by end of term. 2. We will inform you whether your application has been successful and who your partner is. 3. You will be invited to attend the JHB workshop in October 4.
