The Forms of Matter :
The Forms of Matter They are three forms of matter. They are gas, liquid, and solid. One item that I can think of that can fit into all of these are water. If you boil water then it turns into a gas. If you leave water alone it will be a liquid. If you freeze ice it will be a solid.
Slide 4:
They are many ways you can change from one matter to another. John (the person who taught us about matter) showed us prove of how you can change from one matter to another with liquid nitrogen. You can make it shrink by making it cold. You can make it expand by making it hot. Making it hot is called thermal expansion. How can you change into another matter?
Changing matter in experiments. :
Changing matter in experiments. John had showed us many cool experiments. One of them were the experiment when John took a Pringle’s container and filled it up with liquid nitrogen and put the lid on. Same thing with a bottle with a cork, but guess what!? The lid and cork both popped out of the container. You may be wondering why didn’t the lid stay on the bottles. Well you may have known that liquid nitrogen is really cool. It is like 320 degrees below 0. Well when the liquid nitrogen is trapped inside the molecules heats up. Just like when you boil water it turns into gas same thing with liquid nitrogen. It turns into gas and it expands the container and then the lid goes pop!
Changing Matter in experiments (2) :
Changing Matter in experiments (2) John knew that if you shrink metal it would get smaller, and if you make it hotter it will expand. So at first a volunteer (Kevin) was holding a metal piece with a hole in it. At first the metal ball wouldn’t fit through. So John put the metal ball into liquid nitrogen and let it sit there for about 20 minutes. Then a girl named Bianca tried to get the ball through the metal piece with a hole in it and it worked! Do you know why it worked. Well the space between the molecules allowed the ball to squish. The freezing ball squished the molecules together.
Molecules :
Molecules You may be wondering what is molecules I have been saying that a lot. What molecules are is the smallest amount of matter you can have and still have properties of matter.
