Boys learned sports and wrestling. They also only needed two pieces of equipment, a wax board to write on and a sharp stick to write on and a bit at the back to write with this was called a stylus. They did not know what paper was then, and over 2000 years ago pencils were not invented and led was not discovered! School wouldn‘t last long in ancient Greece in Sparta since they didn't need to learn much! But in Athens they learned lots of education to be smart!
