Improving the quality of life for Russian children with down syndrome 10th ANNIVERSARY OF DOWNSIDE UP IN RUSSIA Creating a Successful Partnership with Downside Up

The Issues Downside Up Addresses:

The Issues Downside Up Addresses Each year, 2,000 children with Down syndrome are born in Russia and 85% of these children are abandoned at birth. For decades, Russian doctors‘ professional opinion was, ‘children born with Down syndrome were uneducable. Today, the majority of Russian people still have a deep misunderstanding about the nature of Down syndrome. Russia provides NO early intervention services for children with DS. Russia has NO federal rules on special education for children with special needs. We believe you share our concern. Take Action.

The Work of Downside Up:

The Work of Downside Up Downside Up’s programmes fulfil the need for the social care, early intervention and educational services for children with DS that the Russian state does not provide. Downside Up starts early intervention the day a child with Down syndrome is born. Our specialists’ provide group educational sessions, psychological support and outreach programmes. In 2007, Downside Up helped over 900 families from over 60 regions of Russia. . We believe you share our concern. Take Action.
