Keyword Search - No Mapping - Advanced Mode Enter individual word or phrase to be searched. Search Default Fields in current database. The default field qualifier for an individual database is .mp. .mp.= multipurpose field qualifier (i.e.: Current Contents/All Edition, .mp. = ab, ti, kw, kp; MLA International Bibliography, .mp.= ti, bt, hw) Keyword or phrase entered should be a major concept, topic, of the desired searched results.

Subject Searching: 

Subject Searching Mapping takes you to the Subject Headings: Mapping subject headings: Mapping is turned on if the box next to “Map Term to Subject Heading” is checked. Explode: Choose to retrieve that heading plus all its narrower terms and all of their narrower terms in the MLA Bibliography International Thesaurus. Thesaurus Display: Choose broader, narrower, related or used for terms from the thesaurus display. Scope Note: Provides information about the subject heading searched.

Subject Headings: 

Subject Headings To Enter Subject Headings directly from the command line: If you already know the subject heading, enter it in the “Enter Keyword or phrase” box with a slash or the field qualifier .sh., e.g. hamlet/ or hamlet.sh. To explode a subject heading enter the command exp in front of the subject heading, e.g. exp peace/ Subject headings with embedded operators need to be entered in quotes, e.g. “shakespeare and company”.sh. or “shakespeare and company”/
