Rebecca, Well done! This is a great activity to introducing preschoolers to technology. Having a preschool daughter at home, I know that she would love this and would be talking about her "webquest" for a long time afterward. It is engaging, fun, and appropriate for their level.

“How can I use a computer?”A Webquest for Preschoolers By, Rebecca Stramaglia

Introduction :

Introduction In the preschool where I teach, there are NO student computers or access to technology of any kind besides a DVD player. Although we have a very hands-on approach to preschool, I do believe that even my 3 year olds can benefit from technology. This webquest is designed to introduce my students to computers and the ways that they can use one, even if they only have one at home. The goal of designing a Webquest is to involve students in a learning process that uses technology to access a higher level of thinking.

Task :

Task The task for my students is to complete this webquest with my guidance and experience a few online learning games to become familiar with what computers are and how they work for their benefit.

The Process :

The Process Working one on one, I will read aloud the steps for each student to understand what they are supposed to do (they cannot read yet). In the introduction section of the webquest, students will see pictures of computer terminology and how each external part of the computer will work for them. In the process section, students will be asked to complete 3 online learning games from the websites provided. The games will require them to understand the terms that they learned in the introduction section (i.e. keyboard, mouse, click, etc.)

Evaluation :

Evaluation Having a rubric for an evaluation is a difficult thing for a preschooler to understand, but can be helpful for them as a visual aid if written in very simple terms. The grading rubric will cover how well they understood the topic of computers, were able to complete the online games, and attempt to verbally answer the questions the teacher poses after each activity. Students will be evaluated on a scale of 1 to 4.
