Premium member Presentation Transcript Sounds Like Riverside: Sounds Like Riverside A documentary on the music,the stereotypes,the culture,and the people Classic Rock: Classic Rock The Origins of Rock: The Origins of Rock Rock n’ Roll sound came out of African-American culture and the Blues, with artists such as Robert Johnson and Leadbelly up to Muddy Waters. Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley pioneered the sound of rock in the 1950’s, using electric guitars and youth-oriented lyrics. Also comes the 'British Invasion.' The 1960’s: The 1960’s Rock in the sixties was influenced by revolutionary thinking, social issues such as the war in Vietnam and segregation, and the use of narcotics such as LSD. The sixties counterculture, in revolt against the conservative fifties, produced hippies, free concerts, and new ideas that are still controversial today. Sub Genres: Sub Genres Crust punk, also known as anarcho-punk, combines metal and punk rock. Horror punk, started by the Misfits, includes taking on a horror film persona through makeup, etc. Lyrics are horror film influenced. The 'Oi!' music genre has an emphasis on not making political statements. Characteristics: Characteristics Emphasis on do-it-yourself aesthetic. Original subject matter involves politics and putting down the institution.
