Course plan will typically include University Weeks – classroom / skills laboratory based learning. May be blocks of study or individual study days Practise Weeks – clinical placements e.g. hospitals, community, clinics, private sector, ambulance service Holiday – must be taken as allocated

Key Elements of the Programmes Clinical experience – at least 50% of the programme Theory - study blocks and study days Hours of learning meet statutory / regulatory requirements 45 week academic year Each year is divided into semesters depending on the programme

Key issues to consider Be prepared for study – computer and I.T. skills, written, study and number skills Adapting to student life – attending lectures: typically 9 am start – 4 pm finish You are required to attend all timetabled and placement learning (statutory regulations) Placements are allocated to meet your learning needs. An excellent range of clinical experiences are available

Key issues to consider Shift patterns/weekends in clinical placements - healthcare is 24/7 Travel – necessary for some programmes. Placements are available throughout Staffordshire and Shropshire. Travel expenses may be payable depending on bursary entitlement Financial – bursary or student loan. No tuition or top up fees Holidays are predetermined by the programme

Student / social life Social life - Staffordshire and Shropshire offer a wide variety of bars, live music venues and nightlife as well as charming market towns and places of historical interest We also have Alton Towers, the V- Festival and Trentham Gardens. Plus we’re close enough to Birmingham and Manchester for a great day out!

Students’ Union Much of your entertainment will likely involve the Students’ Union The Students’ Union offers a variety of supported activities ranging from competitive sports or one off events, to cultural activities, media involvement or special interest groups There are various Union bars; over 70 different clubs and societies, and a huge choice of activities that are arranged every year
